Tears of the Kingdom guide
Tears of the Kingdom lets you go almost anywhere, which makes it easy to lose the thread of the story. This walkthrough lays out the main quest in order, from the Great Sky Island to the final battle, and links to a full guide for every step.
Steps 3 to 5 can be done in any order once you reach Hyrule. This is the order we recommend for a first playthrough.
None of these are forced on you by the story, and several are easy to miss. Each one makes the rest of the game smoother.
| Unlock | Where you get it | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Paraglider | Purah at Lookout Landing | Gliding is how you get almost everywhere |
| Autobuild | Beat Master Kohga at the Great Abandoned Central Mine in the Depths | Rebuild saved vehicles in seconds |
| Camera | Robbie's quest Camera Work in the Depths | Needed for the Hyrule Compendium |
| Skyview Towers | One in each region | Each tower reveals that region's map |
| Sage abilities | Clear each temple | Five powers that change how you fight and explore |
| Lightroots | Throughout the Depths | Light up the Depths map around each one |
Tulin's Gust makes gliding much better, which helps with every region you visit after Hebra.
Skyview Towers launch you into the sky and reveal the map. Activate each one as soon as you see it.
Trade Lights of Blessing at a Goddess Statue as soon as you have four. Extra hearts or stamina help right away.
Brightblooms and Lightroots make the Depths far less dangerous. Activate every Lightroot you pass.
A stick fused with a monster horn beats most weapons you find early. Fuse arrows too.
There is no penalty for exploring first. More hearts, sages and the Master Sword make the end much easier.
Head to Lookout Landing, talk to Purah and unlock the first Skyview Tower. Then pick a region; we recommend Hebra and the Wind Temple first.
Technically yes, but it is very hard. Clearing the temples and finding the Master Sword give you more hearts, sage help and a much better weapon.
Find the Light Dragon flying above Hyrule and climb onto its head to pull the sword free. The Dragon’s Tears memories lead you to it.
Jump into one of the glowing chasms on the surface. Robbie’s quest Camera Work in the Depths sends you down the chasm near Lookout Landing.
No. Any order works after the Great Sky Island. See our temples guide for the order we recommend.
