Let me paint the picture: a giant wooden ship frozen in the eye of a blizzard, cannons sweeping its decks, and five turbines you have to spin back to life with nothing but a Rito kid’s gust of wind. That’s the Wind Temple, the first dungeon most players tackle in Tears of the Kingdom, and it ends with a freefall fight against Colgera.

So here’s the deal: how to reach it, all five locks, the loot worth grabbing and how to prep for the boss.

Wind Temple quick facts.

How to Reach the Wind Temple

Head to Rito Village and follow the Tulin of Rito Village quest. Partway through the quest, Tulin joins you and lends you his gust. You then climb the chain of floating ruins up through the storm cloud, using Tulin’s gust to boost your glides, and finally dive down into the eye of the storm onto the ship.

The Setup: it’s freezing up there. The Snowquill set from Rito Village or a cold resistance meal saves a lot of heart drain. Our cooking and elixirs guide covers how to make one.

All Five Wind Temple Turbines

Touch the big central grate on the main deck first: the temple map then shows all five locks. You can do them in any order, and guides number them differently, so I’ll go by location.

The Deck Door With a Broken Lever

On the main deck, one of the metal gates has a broken lever. Grab an icicle lying nearby with Ultrahand, stick it onto the stump to make a new handle, and push it to open the door. Inside, have Tulin gust the turbine to spin it up.

The Main Mast

Ride the big updraft in the middle of the deck and glide to the top of the tallest mast. Use Ultrahand to open the hatch and drop into the room below, where the turbine waits for a gust. Watch out for the laser beams on the way down.

The East Side Window

Jump off the east side of the ship and glide to a frozen window. Melt or break the icicles with a fire source or a Bomb Arrow. Inside, use Recall on a big wheel so it carries you across, then shoot down an icicle and fit it into the gap where a cog is missing. The gears turn, the door opens, and the turbine is yours.

The Underside

Dive off the ship and follow the small floating boats around the perimeter until you can see the underside of the temple above you. Bounce up off a boat and use Tulin’s gust to carry you into the opening. The turbine is right there; gust it, then work your way back out to the surface.

The West Side Window

Dive off the west side, gust over to a lit platform, and glide into the window near a cannon. Down the corridor, use Ultrahand to fuse debris onto a pole in the ceiling, then gust against it to rotate it and open the door above. The last turbine sits beyond.

But here’s where it gets interesting: almost every puzzle is solved by one of three things. A broken lever wants an icicle, a stuck mechanism wants Tulin’s gust, and anything that went the wrong way wants Recall. Our Recall guide and Ultrahand guide go deeper on both abilities.

Loot Worth Grabbing

The temple is packed with chests. Guides list a Large Zonaite near a lit platform, a Ruby you reach by ducking through lasers, a Soldier Blade, a Strong Construct Bow and a few more hidden behind ice blocks you can melt with a campfire. Bring wood and flint, or Fire Fruit, so you can thaw the frozen ones.

Colgera: The Boss

Once the fifth turbine spins, the central hatch opens and Colgera bursts out of the storm. You fight it in freefall: shoot or dive onto the ice covered weak spots on its body, and use Tulin’s gust to escape its tornadoes in the second phase. Fire Fruit arrows melt the ice fast, and Keese Eyeball arrows home in while you’re spinning through the air.

Beat it for a Heart Container and Tulin’s Vow, which frees Rito Village from the blizzard and makes Tulin’s power a permanent part of your kit.

Pro Tips

  • Fast Travel In: the temple entrance becomes a travel point, so you can restock and come right back.
  • Respect the Cannons: they sweep the side entrances. Move between shots and don’t hang around on open decks.
  • Keep Tulin Close: his gust is the answer to half the temple.
  • Check the Map: after each turbine, open the temple map to see which locks are still dark.
  • Stock Arrows: 40 or more is comfortable for the Colgera fight.
