You’ve climbed all the way up Divine Beast Vah Medoh, opened every terminal, and now a floating, gun-armed apparition is waiting on the Beast’s back. Take a breath. Windblight Ganon looks chaotic, but it is one of the more patient Blight fights once you learn its rhythm.

This guide walks you through the setup, both phases, and every reward, with no rush and no wrong way to do it.

Where Windblight Ganon Appears

Windblight Ganon is the boss of Divine Beast Vah Medoh, the giant mechanical bird circling above Rito Village. It is the same piece of Calamity Ganon that killed Revali a hundred years ago, so this fight carries a little extra weight.

It only appears after you activate all five terminals inside the Beast. Then you head to the Main Control Unit on Vah Medoh’s back, place the Sheikah Slate, and the fight begins. If you still need the terminals, our Vah Medoh walkthrough covers the whole dungeon.

What to Bring

Here’s your checklist:

  • Checklist: A good bow and at least 30 arrows. Bomb Arrows are a bonus for phase two, but plain arrows to the eye do the job.
  • Checklist: A shield, if you want to try a Perfect Guard on its energy shots.
  • Checklist: Hearty meals or attack boosting dishes. Our BOTW cookbook lists the strongest ones.
  • Checklist: A couple of stamina restoring meals, since riding updrafts and aiming in midair both drain your stamina wheel.

Take Your Time: The Divine Beast stays put once you are inside, so there is no penalty for warping out to restock and coming back.

How the two phases of the Windblight Ganon fight differ.

Phase 1: Learning Its Rhythm

Windblight Ganon floats around the arena, sometimes low, sometimes high. Its big weak spot is the glowing eye in the center of its head. Every arrow there hurts, and a few quick hits stun it so it drops and you can run in for melee.

  • Cannon Bursts: It fires energy shots in bursts. Hide behind the stone pillars or the Main Control Unit, or keep sprinting in circles.
  • Perfect Guard: If your timing is good, a shield parry knocks the shot straight back at Ganon for solid damage.
  • Tornadoes: The wind up is long and the tornado travels slowly. Run the other way. Tornadoes break the pillars, so your cover shrinks as the fight goes on.
  • Updrafts: Vents along the Beast’s back push you into the air. Ride one up, draw your bow, and time slows down while you aim at the eye.

There’s no wrong way to approach this. Some players parry everything, others stay airborne and never touch the ground. Pick the style that feels comfortable.

Phase 2: The Four Drones

Once Ganon drops to half health, it summons four small drones. It fires into them and the shots ricochet into a web of red lasers across the arena. It also uses them to charge bigger blasts, and it spends far less time near the floor.

  • Stay Covered: Pillars and walls block the bouncing shots, at least while they last.
  • Go Up, Not Around: Use the updrafts to get level with the eye. Chasing it on foot is a losing game.
  • Watch the Charge: Before a charged attack, Ganon holds still for a moment. That is the cleanest bow shot you will get.
  • Stun Clears the Drones: Hitting the eye enough to stun it also shuts the drones down for a while. Follow up with melee or more arrows while it is grounded.

If you already freed Vah Ruta, Mipha’s Grace has your back if things go wrong, and if you have Urbosa’s Fury it works nicely every time Ganon is stunned. Keep going and the health bar will empty sooner than you think.

Rewards for Beating Windblight Ganon

Don’t skip this one: the Heart Container does not go into your inventory by itself.

  • Missable! Pick up the Heart Container that appears after the fight before doing anything else.
  • Checklist: Activate the Main Control Unit again to take full control of Vah Medoh and aim it at Hyrule Castle.
  • Checklist: Revali’s Gale. Hold the jump button to launch straight up into the air, then glide. It recharges over time.
  • Checklist: Return to Elder Kaneli in Rito Village to finish the Divine Beast Vah Medoh quest, then open the chest beside him for the Great Eagle Bow.

Lore Connection: This random detail actually connects to the bigger story. The fight happens on the same Beast where Revali fell, and the Great Eagle Bow you take home was his. Finishing it here is how his spirit finally gets to rest.

Extra Tips

  • Revali’s Gale for other fights: Once you have it, the same “launch up, then shoot in slow motion” trick works against Lynels, Hinox and the remaining Blights.
  • Champions’ Ballad: The DLC brings a tougher Windblight Ganon rematch in an Illusory Realm, so what you learn here pays off twice.
  • Next stop: Many players head to Vah Rudania or Vah Naboris next. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

Windblight Ganon FAQ

How do you start the Windblight Ganon fight?

Activate all five terminals inside Divine Beast Vah Medoh, then use the Main Control Unit on the Beast’s back. The boss appears right away.

What is Windblight Ganon’s weak point?

The glowing eye in the middle of its head. Arrows to the eye deal damage and, after a few quick hits, stun it so you can attack up close.

How many drones does Windblight Ganon have?

Four. It summons them in phase two, once its health drops to half, and uses them to bounce its shots into lasers.

What do you get for beating Windblight Ganon?

A Heart Container, Revali’s Gale, and after you report back to Elder Kaneli, the Great Eagle Bow.

Can you parry Windblight Ganon’s shots?

Yes. A Perfect Guard with your shield sends its energy shots back at it. If the timing feels tricky, hiding behind pillars works too.

One more thing before you move on: stand on Vah Medoh’s back for a minute once it is calm again. The view over Tabantha is one of those moments worth slowing down for.
