In-isa Shrine is where Tears of the Kingdom hands you Fuse, the ability you will use in almost every fight for the rest of the game. The trial is called The Ability to Combine, and it is a short, friendly lesson on the Great Sky Island. Here’s how to reach it, solve every room and grab both chests on the way.
Think of the Great Sky Island as the game’s tutorial zone. Each of its early shrines teaches one ability, and In-isa is the Fuse lesson. Clear it, and the rest of the island gets a lot easier.

How to Reach In-isa Shrine
You can head to In-isa right after the Ukouh Shrine, where you learned Ultrahand. Two new shrines become visible once you step outside Ukouh. Your best bet is to open your scope, place a pin on each one, and follow the pin for In-isa to the southwest.
- Step 1: Head south from Ukouh along the western side of the island until you reach the rails over the water.
- Step 2: Build a platform with a hook on it using Ultrahand, hang it on the rail and ride it across.
- Step 3: At the broken section of path, grab nearby logs and stick them together into a bridge long enough to span the gap.
- Step 4: Keep heading south past the streams. Constructs patrol here, so fight or sneak, your call.
- Step 5: At the big lake, put together a simple raft from the logs on the shore with Ultrahand, push it into the water and cross.
- Step 6: Climb the hill on the far side. The shrine is waiting at the top.
(Pro tip: there’s a Korok with a backpack on this route who wants to reach his friend. Helping him is a nice bit of extra Ultrahand practice. See our Great Sky Island Korok seeds guide for every one on the island.)
In-isa Shrine Walkthrough: The Ability to Combine
Step inside and Rauru grants you Fuse right away. In short, Fuse lets you stick a material or object onto your equipped weapon, your shield or your arrows. The shrine then walks you through three uses of it. Here’s the full breakdown:
Room 1: Boulder Weapon
- Grab the weapon: Pick up the Rusty Claymore lying in the first room and equip it.
- Fuse a boulder: Stand next to one of the boulders and use Fuse to attach it to your weapon. You now have a heavy rock hammer.
- Smash the wall: Swing at the cracked stone wall blocking the way and walk through.
Room 2: The Arrow Chest
Stone pillars stand in this room, and one in the left corner has a chest on top. Hit that pillar with your boulder weapon until it topples, then open the chest for 5 Arrows. Oh, and smashing the other pillars costs you nothing, so it is a safe place to get used to the swing speed of a rock hammer.
Room 2: Fire Arrow and the Small Key
- Grab the supplies: Pick the Fire Fruit from the shrubs in the side area and take the Old Wooden Bow lying nearby.
- Make a fire arrow: Hold ZR to draw the bow, then press up on the D-pad to open the material menu and pick Fire Fruit.
- Burn the leaves: Look up at the wall for a chest wrapped in dry leaves. Shoot it with the fire arrow. The leaves burn away and the chest drops.
- Grab the key: Open the chest for a Small Key, then use it on the locked door on the main path.

Room 3: The Construct Fight
Behind the locked door is a sturdier Zonai construct than the ones you fought outside, standing on a patch of dry leaves. Here’s how to make it easy:
- Open with fire: Shoot a Fire Fruit arrow into the leaves under it. The fire takes a big chunk of its health before you even get close.
- Finish it in melee: Close in with your boulder weapon and land a few hits, then back off when it swings.
- Grab the drops: Constructs drop parts you can fuse later, so pick up everything it leaves behind.
Smash the last stone wall with your boulder weapon, walk up to the altar and claim the Light of Blessing. Nailed it? You’re winning!
Fuse Combos You Use in This Shrine
| Fuse pairing | What you get | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| Boulder plus weapon | Heavy rock hammer | Breaking cracked walls and stone pillars |
| Fire Fruit plus arrow | Fire arrow | Burning dry leaves to drop the key chest and hurt the construct |
Two simple pairings, two completely different jobs. That is the whole idea behind Fuse, and it scales up fast. Check out our Fuse beginner’s guide for the combos worth making once you leave the island.

Rewards and What to Do Next
- Fuse: Permanent. Works on weapons, shields and arrows for the rest of the game.
- Light of Blessing: Collect four and trade them at a Goddess Statue for a Heart Container or a Stamina Vessel.
- 5 Arrows and a Small Key: From the two chests inside.
- Energy Cell: Depending on which shrine you clear first, a Steward Construct may hand you one on your way out. It powers Zonai devices.
Head to the snowy mountain next for the Gutanbac Shrine and Ascend, then to the Temple of Time for Recall. Pack some warm food for that snowy climb (think spicy peppers).

Where is the arrow chest in In-isa Shrine?
On top of a stone pillar in the left corner of the second room. Knock the pillar down with your boulder weapon to get 5 Arrows.
Do you have to do In-isa before Gutanbac?
No. Once you leave Ukouh, In-isa and the Gutanbac Shrine both show up, and you can clear them in either order.
Your next move: grab whatever you can find on the way out and fuse it to something. Rocks, horns, fruit, it all does something, and the best way to learn Fuse is to experiment. Head on to the next shrine and keep building.
