Ready to trade Hyrule’s green fields for lava, ash and rivers of fire? Eldin is the hottest corner of Breath of the Wild, built around Death Mountain, and it will literally set you alight if you walk in unprepared.

Here’s how to beat the heat, grab the tower, find all nine shrines and get the Gorons on your side.

Where Eldin Is and What to Expect

Eldin sits in the northeast of Hyrule, west of Akkala. The whole region climbs toward Death Mountain, the active volcano at its center, with Goron City tucked into its slopes.

  • Heat: the closer you get to Death Mountain and its lava, the hotter it gets. In the hottest zones Link catches fire without heat protection.
  • Gear Danger: wooden weapons, bows and shields burst into flames when equipped near Death Mountain, even if you are protected. Swap to metal before you go.
  • Locals: Gorons live here comfortably, and Goron City is your shopping and quest hub.
  • Main Story: Divine Beast Vah Rudania prowls the crater, and freeing it is one of the four Divine Beast quests.

How to Beat the Heat

You have three ways to stop burning. Your best bet early on is elixirs, then armor once you can afford it.

(Pro tip: drink your elixir before you step into the heat, not after you start smoking. Carry a spare or two, since the timer runs out fast on long climbs.)

Here’s How to Reach Eldin Tower

Eldin Tower stands on a small mountain ledge in southern Eldin Canyon, well below Death Mountain, so the heat is not a problem yet. There is no puzzle on the climb: you just need to get onto it.

  • Step 1: Head to Foothill Stable, which sits along the Ternio Trail at the entrance to Eldin Canyon.
  • Step 2: Talk to Gaile at the stable and stock up on Fireproof Elixirs for later.
  • Step 3: Climb to Mo’a Keet Shrine on the cliff east of the stable. Its trial, Metal Makes a Path, gives you a fast travel point right at the canyon entrance.
  • Step 4: Follow the canyon path north, climb the rocks near the tower, then glide across and grab on.
  • Step 5: Scale to the top and activate the terminal to reveal the region map.

Enemies hang around the base, so scout before you commit to the climb. Our Eldin Tower guide has the full route if you want every handhold.

All 9 Eldin Shrines

The Eldin Tower region holds nine shrines. Three of them stay hidden until you finish a shrine quest, so don’t panic if your count stalls.

The Three Shrine Quests

  • The Gut Check Challenge: talk to Bayge on Gut Check Rock, north of Death Mountain. Climb the pinnacle without falling to reach Gorae Torr.
  • A Brother’s Roast: starts with Bladon in Goron City. Carry a Rock Roast from Gortram through Gorko Tunnel to reveal Kayra Mah.
  • A Landscape of a Stable: starts at Foothill Stable. Find the spot shown in a painting southwest of the stable and Tah Muhl rises from the ground.

Goron City is the beating heart of Eldin. Grab your Flamebreaker gear, sell your ore, and pick up the main quest that leads to Yunobo and Divine Beast Vah Rudania. Our Goron City guide covers every shop and quest in town.

  • The Goal: team up with Yunobo, climb the volcano and board Vah Rudania.
  • The Reward: clearing the beast earns you Daruk’s Protection, a barrier that blocks incoming attacks and recharges between uses.
  • Prep: bring Flamebreaker armor, metal weapons and plenty of hearts. Our Vah Rudania walkthrough breaks down every terminal.

Pro Tips

  • Korok Hunting: Death Mountain is full of Korok seeds hidden in rock circles and under boulders. Check out our Death Mountain Korok seeds guide.
  • Ore Mining: Eldin is packed with ore deposits. Mine them for gems and sell the surplus in Goron City for quick rupees.
  • Plan Your Route: the BOTW interactive map makes it easy to chain shrines, Koroks and the tower in one trip.

Eldin Region FAQ

How do you not burn in Eldin?

Get Flame Guard. Drink a Fireproof Elixir from Gaile at Foothill Stable or cook one, or buy the Flamebreaker armor set in Goron City.

Where is Eldin Tower?

In southern Eldin Canyon, a short trip from Foothill Stable. Climb the nearby rocks, glide to the tower and climb to the top.

How many shrines are in Eldin?

Nine. Gorae Torr, Kayra Mah and Tah Muhl only appear after their shrine quests.

Why do my wooden weapons catch fire?

Near Death Mountain, equipped wooden weapons, bows and shields ignite regardless of your protection. Use metal gear in the hottest zones.
