So here’s the deal: not every shrine in Breath of the Wild wants to mess with your brain. Dah Kaso Shrine is one of those, and honestly, I love it for that.

No puzzle, no physics gimmick, no motion-control headache. Just you, a Guardian Scout, and a spear that really wants to meet your face.

Look, I get it. Guardians have a reputation. But this is the friendliest version of that nightmare, and I’m going to walk you through every phase of it.

Where to Find Dah Kaso Shrine

When I first found this, I was crossing the Digdogg Suspension Bridge and almost walked right over it. The devs hid this in plain sight: the shrine sits tucked underneath one of the bridge spans.

Here’s everything you need to pin it down on your map.

  • Region: Central Hyrule, on the southwestern side of the region.
  • Exact Spot: Below one of the bridges at Digdogg Suspension Bridge.
  • Nearby Landmarks: Southwest of Outskirt Stable, west of the Great Plateau, and just north of the entrance to Gerudo Desert.
  • Shrine Type: Minor Test of Strength, the easiest tier of combat shrine.
  • Your Opponent: A Guardian Scout armed with a Guardian Spear.

(Pro tip: Don’t hunt for the entrance on the bridge deck. Drop down beside the span and look underneath, because the shrine is right there waiting.)

Lore Deep Dive: Think about what’s happening here for a second. The Sheikah built Guardians to defend Hyrule, and a century ago they turned on everybody. Now one of them is basically a sparring partner for a monk’s trial. The worldbuilding here is next level.

Dah Kaso Shrine Walkthrough and Solution

The Setup: There’s no trick to this one. You step into a big arena packed with pillars, and a Guardian Scout rises from the middle with its spear in hand.

The fight has three phases, and each one has a clean answer. Here’s the full breakdown.

  • Step 1: Prep before you go in. Check your meals for anything that boosts attack or defense, whichever you feel is lacking. A good dish makes this fight a breeze.
  • Step 2: Survive phase one. The Scout scuttles around, then charges to stab you with its spear. Dodge to the side, and be careful dodging backward, because you can still end up inside its reach.
  • Step 3: Use the pillars. After a few hits, it jumps backward and extends itself, then spins its spear rapidly before charging. Duck behind a pillar, let it smash into the stone and get dazed, then run in and counter.
  • Step 4: Handle phase two at about half health. It still charges, but now it jumps back and fires a laser in big circles around itself, which creates a huge updraft. Jump, open your paraglider, and rise into the air.
  • Step 5: Shoot the eye. Pull out your bow while airborne and use the slow-down to aim at the Guardian’s eye, which stuns it. Miss, and you’ll probably eat the laser when you land.
  • Step 6: Beat the final phase. When the Scout turns blue, it stops moving and builds up energy. It then releases 3 to 4 short blasts. Pillars won’t help and eye shots won’t stun it, so sprint, dodge the blasts, and rush in to hit it once it finishes.

Here’s Where It Gets Wild: That updraft moment is my favorite part of the whole shrine. The Guardian creates the very thing you need to beat it. Gliding up, slowing time, and sniping that glowing eye feels absolutely heroic.

The earlier laser behavior is worth knowing too. When the Guardian tucks its arms in and starts spinning its head, a laser is coming. Get out of the way, because each hit drains a little over two hearts.

(Pro tip: Pillars are your best friend against the laser as well as the spear charge. When in doubt, put solid stone between you and that eye.)

The Payoff: Once the Scout drops, a door at the back of the arena opens. Walk through, and a treasure chest sits right inside.

Grab it, then head up the stairs to the glowing altar. Interact with it to meet the Monk, Dah Kaso, and finish the shrine.

Rewards

It’s a short list, but the stuff on it is good.

  • Spirit Orb: Awarded by the Monk Dah Kaso when you complete the shrine. Save these up for heart containers or stamina.
  • Ancient Core: Found in the treasure chest immediately inside the door that opens after the fight. These are great for Sheikah tech upgrades and crafting.

(Pro tip: Don’t leave the chest behind in your victory rush. It’s easy to run straight for the altar and miss a free Ancient Core.)

Pro Tips

You’re not ready for this one if you think a Minor Test of Strength means zero planning. It’s easy, but these habits make it even easier.

  • Strafe, Don’t Backpedal: Target the enemy and move left or right, then jump. This dodges the spear charge more reliably than retreating.
  • Respect the Reach: A backward dodge can leave you inside the spear’s range, so sidestep when you can.
  • Let It Hit the Pillar: The spear spin is a free opening. Wait behind cover until it crashes, then counter while it’s dazed.
  • Bring Arrows: You need a bow for the airborne eye shot in phase two. Check your quiver before you enter.
  • Don’t Miss the Eye: A whiffed shot usually means a laser hit when you land. Take a breath in slow-mo and aim.
  • Don’t Stand Still in Phase Three: The blue Guardian’s blasts come in quick bursts, so keep sprinting and dodging.
  • Eat First: Attack or defense meals turn a fair fight into a lopsided one.

(Pro tip: Low-level run? No problem. This is the easiest test of strength in the game, and even a fresh Link can manage it.)

Why Dah Kaso Shrine Matters

Anyway, here’s why I’m a fan. Dah Kaso is a perfect little training ground for the scarier Guardians out in the world. You learn to read the tells, use cover, and exploit the eye.

Do it early and you’ll walk into every future Guardian encounter with real confidence. You also walk out with a Spirit Orb and an Ancient Core for maybe ten minutes of effort.

Moving on, the rest of Central Hyrule has plenty of secrets waiting. But I want to hear from you: did you take the pillar approach, or did you go full paraglider sniper on the Scout? Drop your strategy in the comments, and tell me the weirdest way you’ve ever beaten a Guardian.
