Joku-u Shrine is the easiest shrine on the hardest island to reach in the Faron sky. It sits on Dragonhead Island in the Thunderhead Isles, a chain of sky islands that spends a big chunk of the game hidden inside a thunderstorm. Getting there is the whole challenge. Once you land, the shrine is basically a gift.

Here’s the chill version: reach the island, drop into the shrine, grab a Diamond and a Light of Blessing. Let’s walk through this together.

No Stress: there are two shrines with almost the same name up here. Joku-u is the free Rauru’s Blessing shrine. Joku-usin is a separate Proving Grounds shrine elsewhere in the Thunderhead Isles, where you lose your gear and fight Constructs. Double check the name on your map before you set out.

The Storm: Clear It First

Honestly? The best advice is to wait until the storm is gone. The Thunderhead Isles are wrapped in a thunderstorm until you progress the main quest Secret of the Ring Ruins, which starts in Kakariko Village. During it, you bring a Zonai Charge to the altar at the Ring Ruins near Dracozu Lake while wearing the Charged armor set. Lightning strikes, the sky clears, and the Thunderhead Isles and Dragonhead Island appear in full view.

Kakariko has changed a lot since Breath of the Wild, and our Kakariko Village guide covers how it looked the first time around.

How to Reach Joku-u Shrine

Route 1: After the Storm (Recommended)

  1. Launch from the Popla Foothills Skyview Tower. Fast travel there and ride the launch up.
  2. Glide south to the Thunderhead Isles. Pull out your paraglider as soon as you reach the top of the launch.
  3. Climb the islands. Once you are among the isles, glide and ascend through the downward-facing pillars to reach the highest point.
  4. Head southeast to Dragonhead Island. The shrine sits inside the eye-shaped structure of the dragon head.
  5. Drop in. Glide down gently into the opening and the shrine is right there.

If your stamina wheel is small, eat a stamina meal before you jump. Tulin’s gust also helps you stretch a glide.

Route 2: Before the Storm (Harder)

You can reach the island early, but visibility in the storm is terrible. If you want to try, take a long glide from a high sky island to the north, carry plenty of stamina food, and keep heading for the isles until you can drop straight down onto Dragonhead.

  • Ditch the metal: Swap out metal weapons, shields and bows before you fly into a lightning storm. Metal gear attracts strikes.
  • Shock resistance helps: Electric resistance gear or an elixir is a nice safety net if you end up circling.
  • Falling sky debris: Chunks of sky island rock fall from the sky across Hyrule. Stand on one where it lands and use Recall to ride it back up. It is a fun shortcut to altitude.

Pack stamina food: the glide from the Popla Foothills tower is a long one.

Inside the Shrine

Okay but, this part is so good. There is nothing to solve.

  1. Walk forward. You receive Rauru’s Blessing just by entering.
  2. Open the chest. It holds a Diamond.
  3. Touch the altar. Collect your Light of Blessing.

That is the whole shrine. Activating it also makes it a fast travel point, which is great because the Thunderhead Isles are a pain to reach twice.

Rewards

  • Diamond: Sell it for a big pile of rupees or fuse it to a weapon.
  • Light of Blessing: Four of these buy a Heart Container or Stamina Vessel at a Goddess Statue.
  • Fast travel point: The Payoff. A permanent warp right into the Thunderhead Isles, handy for the quest and for Joku-usin next door.

Tips for the Thunderhead Isles

  • Do the quest first: If you are not in a hurry, clearing the storm makes the whole trip relaxed.
  • Pack stamina food: The glide from the tower is long, and running out mid-air means a long fall.
  • Glide down slowly: The shrine opening is a hole in the dragon head. A gentle descent beats a dive.
  • Grab Joku-usin while you are here: The neighboring Proving Grounds shrine is also in the Thunderhead Isles, so it is worth a stop now that you have a warp point.
