So you’ve found a shrine marker out on a dusty plain in the Tabantha Frontier, you run up to it… and there’s no door. Honestly? That’s totally normal. Ikatak Shrine is one of the crystal shrines, and it’s waiting for you to bring its missing piece home.

The fun part is how you do it: you strap rockets to a glowing crystal and fire it out of an underground cave. Take your time with this one. There’s no timer, and if a launch goes sideways you can just try again.

Where to Find Ikatak Shrine

Ikatak sits in the Tabantha Frontier, in the southwest part of the Hebra region, right at the edge of Gisa Crater. The northern entrance of Gisa Crater Cave is just south of the shrine.

  • Coordinates: -3950, 1138, 0112.
  • Region: Tabantha Frontier, Hebra (surface).
  • Shrine Type: Rauru’s Blessing, so no puzzle inside.
  • Shrine Quest: The Gisa Crater Crystal. It starts when you examine the shrine.
  • Getting There: Glide in from Rospro Pass Skyview Tower, or cross the bridge from Tabantha Bridge Stable and climb down the rocky path on the left.

(No stress if the shrine looks odd when you arrive. Its shape changes once the crystal is back in place.)

The Gisa Crater Crystal: Step by Step

Here’s the chill version: find the crystal underground, clear out its guards, launch it out with a rocket, and carry it back. Let’s walk through this together.

  1. Start the quest. Examine the green runes at the shrine. A beam of green light points down toward the crystal underground.
  2. Drop into Gisa Crater Cave. Follow the light to the hole that leads into the cave and drop down.
  3. Clear the guards. Two skeletal Bokoblins and two Ice Likes hang around the crystal. Take them out first (strategy below).
  4. Move the crystal under the hole. Use Ultrahand to bring it to the center of the cavern, right under the opening you dropped through.
  5. Grab a rocket. There are rockets in the cave. Attach one, or both, to the crystal with Ultrahand, exhaust facing down.
  6. Launch it. Hit the rocket. The crystal should shoot up through the hole and land on the surface.
  7. Ascend out. Use Ascend to come back up through the ceiling.
  8. Bring it home. Find the crystal, carry it to the shrine entrance with Ultrahand, and the shrine opens.

Don’t stress if the crystal falls back down. It happens, and a few launches is normal. Line it up again and fire.

One more reassuring note: nothing here is missable. If you wander off halfway through, you can come back and pick the quest up whenever you like.

Beating the Ice Likes

Ice Likes are the only real threat in this quest. They cling to walls and breathe freezing mist that can turn Link into an ice cube.

  • Use Fire: Ice Likes are ice creatures, so fire is your friend. Fire Fruit fused to arrows works great.
  • Aim for the Core: Shoot the core with arrows to knock them down, then rush in for melee hits.
  • Mind the Mist: Stay out of the breath’s range and use the cave walls for cover.
  • One at a Time: There’s no bonus for speed. Pull them apart and take them on separately.

The Payoff: A Big Battery is a real upgrade for gadget-heavy play. Rocket shields, flying machines and hover bikes all last longer, and it’s worth the little crystal adventure, I promise.

Pro Tips

  • Bring Fire Arrows: A handful of Fire Fruit makes the Ice Like fight much easier.
  • Check the Rocket Direction: Exhaust down, crystal up. Spin it with Ultrahand before you hit it.
  • Save Before Launch: A quick manual save means a messy launch costs you nothing.
  • Look Around the Cave: Caves usually hide ore and critters, so take a peek before you leave.
  • Pin It: Drop a map pin on the shrine so you can find it again once you climb out.

Rocket launches are basically an Ultrahand and Fuse exam. Our Ultrahand guide and Fuse beginner’s guide cover the skills, and Ascend is your ticket out of the cave. Plan your route with the TOTK interactive map, and find more guides in our Tears of the Kingdom hub.
