Few phrases make Zelda fans flinch like “the Water Temple.” Take a deep breath: in Tears of the Kingdom it is compact, clever and much friendlier than its reputation. Your goal is to switch on four faucets that wash the sludge out of the temple, then face the creature behind the mess, the Mucktorok.
This walkthrough covers getting there, every faucet, and the boss.
Water Temple Overview
- Checklist: the temple is the last stage of the main quest Sidon of the Zora, which follows The Sludge Covered Statue.
- Getting there: Sidon’s quest leads you to East Reservoir Lake, where you create a waterfall up to Wellspring Island in the sky. Cross the island, using its low gravity and your Zora Armor to swim up waterfalls, and you reach the temple.
- Your partner: Sidon comes with you. Stand near him and interact to get his water bubble shield; attacking while it is up sends out a wave of water. This is the key to almost every puzzle.
- The goal: touch the altar by the entrance stairs and it tells you to turn on four faucets. Each faucet is switched on by hitting a hidden water wheel with Sidon’s water.
- Low gravity: the whole temple has reduced gravity, so jumps that look impossible usually are not.
Take Your Time: like the other temples, this one has a travel point at the entrance, so you can leave to restock and come straight back.

The Four Faucets at a Glance
| Faucet | Where | Key trick |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | West side ruins, left of the entrance | Drain a pool so a ball drops onto its pedestal |
| 2 | B1, beneath the central platform | Carry an orb past spikes and into a wall slot |
| 3 | Northeast island, upper platform | Keep a water wheel turning, then bridge power with a bubble |
| 4 | Southern platform | Pop bubbles on a spinning tower, then shoot the crystal |
Water Temple Walkthrough
Faucet 1: The Ball and the Sluice
- Step 1: climb the ruins on the left.
- Step 2: in the back left corner is a sludge covered bubble maker. Get Sidon’s bubble, then strike the sludge from above to clean it.
- Step 3: grab the round ball from the water between the enemies with Ultrahand, catch a bubble to carry it up a floor, and ride a bubble up yourself.
- Step 4: set the ball on the round pedestal in the pool. Attach a powered Zonai battery stone to the right sluice gate to hold it open. The pool drains, the ball settles, and a gate opens.
- Step 5: run to the wheel behind the gate and hit it with Sidon’s water. One of four.
Faucet 2: Fire, Spikes and an Orb
- Step 1: glide down the west side of the central platform to the lower floor (B1).
- Step 2: walk through the wall of fire inside Sidon’s bubble, then glide to the orb at the far end.
- Step 3: push the orb over the spikes with Ultrahand and make a running, gliding jump across.
- Step 4: attach the orb to a floating rock, carry it back and fit it into the wall slot beside the fire, facing the wall. A door to the wheel opens.
- Step 5: block the fire stream with another rock, refresh Sidon’s bubble outside, come back and hit the wheel. Two of four.
Faucet 3: The Waterwheel and the Bubble Bridge
- Step 1: from the central platform, climb the wall to the right of the faucets where sludge drips down, then glide to the northeast island.
- Step 2: use Recall on a bubble from the bubble maker above, hop in, and ride it up.
- Step 3: on the right is a water wheel with two stone slabs below it. Attach one slab to the top and one to the bottom of the wheel, on opposite ends, so the waterfall keeps it spinning.
- Step 4: follow the yellow electric line to a gap in the wall and place a water bubble in the gap with Ultrahand. It carries the power and opens a door.
- Step 5: hit the wheel behind the door with Sidon’s water before the bubble pops. Three of four.

Faucet 4: The Spinning Tower
- Step 1: glide south from the third faucet’s platform to the last marker and clear the enemies.
- Step 2: a spinning tower has a sludge covered opening. Stand on the bubble maker in the southeast corner, grab bubbles with Ultrahand and push them against the tower until one pops and clears the sludge.
- Step 3: from the middle platform, shoot the orange crystal inside the tower with an arrow.
- Step 4: a door to the last wheel opens. Hit it with Sidon’s water. Four of four.
This is one of those moments worth slowing down for. With all four faucets running, the sludge washes out and the temple finally looks the way it was built to look.
Beating the Mucktorok
Step through the green portal on the central platform to start the fight. The Mucktorok is a small creature hiding inside a big sludge shark.
- Wash it: hit the shark with Sidon’s water wave or a water arrow (Splash Fruit or Chuchu Jelly fused with Fuse). The sludge falls away and the Mucktorok tumbles out.
- Knock it down: it tries to run. Shoot it or chase it to drop it again.
- Hit hard: unload on it while it is down. After a few hits it rebuilds the shark.
- Phase two: at about half health it starts covering the floor in slowing sludge. Clear a path with water and lean on arrows.
Rewards
- Checklist: a Heart Container.
- Checklist: Sidon’s Vow, so his water shield is with you anywhere in Hyrule.
- Checklist: the sludge clears from Zora’s Domain and the Sidon of the Zora quest wraps up.
Lore Connection: this random detail actually connects to the bigger story. The sludge you wash out of the temple is the same muck that has been poisoning Zora’s Domain all quest. A few warm, healing meals from our best recipes guide go a long way here.
