Kiuyoyou Shrine is one of those Tears of the Kingdom puzzle rooms that looks intimidating for about ten seconds and then clicks beautifully. The hint title is Fire and Ice, and that is exactly the lesson: flames shrink ice, a stone slab blocks flames, and an ice cube can carry things where nothing else will slide.

Everything here runs on Ultrahand, which you already have from the Great Sky Island tutorial. There’s no wrong way to approach this one, so let’s walk through it together, chest included.

Kiuyoyou Shrine Location

Kiuyoyou Shrine sits on a small rise in the Rowan Plain, northeast of Lindor’s Brow Skyview Tower in the Hyrule Ridge region. It is not hidden: follow the road through the plain and the shrine’s glow is visible well before you reach it.

  • Coordinates: roughly (-1106, 2089, 0104). Guides differ by a single unit on the middle number, so treat it as a pin, not a promise.
  • Nearest Skyview Tower: Lindor’s Brow. Activate it first and the shrine shows up on your map.
  • Nearby stable: New Serenne Stable lies to the southwest, a handy place to register a horse before the ride over.
  • Gear needed: none. No cold or heat protection, no weapons, just Ultrahand.

Take Your Time: the Rowan Plain is wide open and quiet. If you are filling in Hyrule Ridge, it’s a nice moment to scan for Korok puzzles on the way, and our Korok seed locations guide helps with the counting.

Kiuyoyou Shrine Walkthrough

The shrine has two halves. The lower room teaches you to shrink ice in fire. The upper room teaches you to protect ice from fire, then sends you back down to use both ideas on the final switch.

Step 1: Shrink the Ice Cube

  • Look around first: flame jets on your right, a large ice cube on your left, and a closed gate ahead. One switch sits in a tight alcove; a second, bigger switch sits right under the flame jets.
  • Grab the cube: pick up the ice with Ultrahand. It is too big for the alcove switch as it is.
  • Quick dips only: pass the cube under the flames for a moment, pull it out, check the size, repeat. It melts fast.
  • Place it: once it fits, set it on the alcove switch and the gate opens.

If the cube melts away completely, don’t worry. A replacement drops from a chute in the ceiling, so you can try again as often as you like.

Step 2: Grab the Chest

Through the gate you will see a ledge you cannot quite climb. This is where the chest lives, and it is the one spot completionists tend to walk past.

  • Make a step: bring an ice cube under the ledge and climb onto it.
  • Lift it higher: from the first ledge, use Ultrahand to raise the cube onto the next shelf, then climb it again.
  • Open the chest: it holds a Zonaite Spear.

Missable! The shrine counts as complete without the chest, so the map will not nag you about it later. Grab it now and save yourself a return trip.

A leaning stone slab like this one is the key to Kiuyoyou: use it to block the flames, then stick it on the ice.

Step 3: Ride the Updraft and Block the Flames

  • Cross over: drop from the ramp and paraglide on the air current to the upper platform on the far side.
  • Watch the machine: ice cubes keep dropping straight into a flame jet and melting before Ultrahand can save them.
  • Use the slab: a stone slab leans against the wall nearby. Move it in front of the flame jet so the next cube lands safely.
  • Rescue the cube: pull the full sized ice cube away from the fire and set it on the ledge by the slope.

Step 4: Build the Ice Sled

  • Make the hat: grab the stone slab again and attach it to the top of the ice cube.
  • Ice side down: set the combined block on the spiked slope with the ice touching the spikes. The slab will not slide down that slope by itself; the ice does the sliding.
  • Follow it: paraglide down after the block and find it at the bottom.

Step 5: Press the Big Switch

Carry the ice and slab combo back to the first flame jets, the ones blasting the large switch. Lower it onto the switch with the slab facing up into the fire. The slab shields the ice, the ice is heavy enough to hold the switch down, and the door to the altar opens.

Walk up to the altar and claim your Light of Blessing. Down in the Depths, Kiuyoyou’s counterpart is the Uoyoyuik Lightroot, the shrine’s name spelled backwards.

Tips if You Get Stuck

  • Short dips beat long holds: you can always melt a little more, but you cannot un-melt it.
  • Use Recall as a backup: if a cube is falling toward the fire before your slab is set, Recall reverses it back up the chute, buying time to grab it with Ultrahand.
  • Check the orientation: on the final switch the slab must be between the ice and the flames. Rotate the block in Ultrahand before you set it down.
  • No rush: the cube machine never runs out. Take it at your own pace.

If you are still getting comfortable with sticking objects together, our Fuse guide and the Recall guide cover the abilities this shrine leans on.

Lore Connection: Kiuyoyou is one of the shrines that rose across Hyrule during the Upheaval, each one a trial left by Rauru to help Link master his new arm. Plenty of later shrines mix an element with an Ultrahand build, and Fire and Ice is that idea in its simplest form.

Kiuyoyou Shrine FAQ

Where is Kiuyoyou Shrine in Tears of the Kingdom?

In the Rowan Plain, northeast of Lindor’s Brow Skyview Tower in Hyrule Ridge, at roughly (-1106, 2089, 0104).

What is in the Kiuyoyou Shrine chest?

A Zonaite Spear. The chest sits on a high ledge past the first gate; use an ice cube as a step to reach it.

How do you stop the ice from melting in Kiuyoyou Shrine?

Move the stone slab in front of the flame jet so the falling cube survives, then attach the slab to the top of the cube.

Why won’t the stone slab slide down the spikes?

The slab alone does not slide on that slope. Attach it to an ice cube and set the ice side on the spikes.

One more thing before you move on: if Kiuyoyou was your first real taste of element puzzles, you’ll see the same trick again and again across Hyrule. Keep the slab idea in your back pocket, and enjoy that fresh Light of Blessing.
