The Fire Temple is the minecart dungeon of Tears of the Kingdom: five gongs, a maze of rails, lava everywhere and a boss that hangs from the ceiling. It looks intimidating from the door, but once you see how the tracks connect, it falls into place fast.
Here’s the full breakdown: how to get there, how to ring all five gongs in a sensible order and how to beat Marbled Gohma. Grab Yunobo and let’s roll.

Before You Go
- Fire protection: one piece of Flamebreaker armor from Goron City or a Fireproof Elixir is enough to stop you burning on Death Mountain. Need an elixir? Our cooking and elixir guide shows the recipe (think Fireproof Lizard plus a monster part).
- Metal weapons: wooden weapons catch fire here, so pack metal or Zonaite gear.
- Arrows: the boss fight goes smoother with a stack ready.
How to Reach the Fire Temple
- Kick off in Goron City. Talk to the Gorons, then head north to YunoboCo HQ and find Yunobo in a cave.
- Snap Yunobo out of it. He attacks you; dodge his roll, hit his back while he’s dazed, and repeat three times.
- Climb Death Mountain. Use Yunobo’s power to smash the red rocks in your way and head for the summit, where you deal with Moragia from a Zonai flying vehicle.
- Ride the mountain track. On the west side of the volcano, a minecart track with fans winds up the slope. Take it to the top.
- Descend into the pit. Drop into Death Mountain’s pit to reach the Depths and follow the lightroots until the fortress ahead reveals itself as the Fire Temple.

Once you arrive, the temple is added to your map as a warp point. Nailed it? Now the real puzzle starts.
Fire Temple Walkthrough: All Five Gongs
Each gong opens one padlock on the main door. You can ring them in any order, but this route keeps things linear.
| Gong | Floor | The key trick |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1F, south | Bridge the lava, ride the fan cart, smash the marbled rock |
| 2 | 2F, north | Smash the red rock in the magma room, then bridge across |
| 3 | 4F | Raise the tracks from 3F, then build a rock ramp |
| 4 | 1F, lower area | Cross the broken bridge and drop through the hole |
| 5 | 5F | Rocket cart or flying machine (or Recall on a block) |
Gong 1 (1F)
From the padlocked door, enter the building to the east. Use the hydrants to turn lava into rock chunks and build a bridge, then ride the fan-powered minecart to the next building. Flip the switch so the track runs straight, hop off where the cart stops, and head left. Build a ramp, have Yunobo break the rock and charge him into the gong.
Gong 2 (2F)
Follow the track onward and use the switches to steer right. In the big room with lava on both walls, send Yunobo into the red rock in the magma, then make a rock bridge. A Construct guards this gong, so clear it first.
Gong 3 (4F)
From the second gong, hit the southern switch to raise the track and ride up to 3F, where an obelisk powers an elevator. Use the two switches on 3F to lift the track to 4F, ride the loop, stop the fan and jump off. Smash the red rocks, uncover the hydrant and build a ramp to the gong (Ultrahand makes this easy).
Gong 4 (1F)
From 4F, clear the red rock on the broken bridge with Yunobo and cross the gap to the southwest with a quick bridge. Drop through the hole. The gong and an obelisk are at the bottom.
Gong 5 (5F)
Take the 1F elevator up to 3F. In the southwest, the right-side rails are broken: strap rockets to a cart to jump the gap, then hit the switch on the far side to lower the track. From 4F, two rockets and a few fans make a glider that reaches 5F. (Pro tip: Recall on the right block can also carry you up.)

How to Beat Marbled Gohma
With all five padlocks open, head through the gate to the boss. Marbled Gohma is a giant spider-like monster covered in marbled rock, and Yunobo is your main weapon.
- Reveal it: aim Yunobo at a wall to smash the rocks and start the fight.
- Ground phase: launch Yunobo at a leg to break it. After two legs go down, the boss collapses; run in and hit the eye.
- Escape the ring: when exploding rocks trap you in a circle, fire Yunobo to break out.
- Roof phase (below half health): it climbs onto the ceiling. Fire Yunobo up the walls on the opposite side from where it is moving, so he meets it head on. One hit knocks it down.
- Finish it: attack the eye every time it drops. The Master Sword with a strong fusion hits hard here.
Rewards
- Heart Container: left behind by Marbled Gohma.
- Yunobo’s Vow: Yunobo’s power becomes permanent, and his avatar follows you around Hyrule.
Your call what comes next, but if you’re planning the other temples, the TOTK interactive map helps you plot the route, and the Tears of the Kingdom hub has the rest of our guides.
Lore note: the temple’s name card calls it Lost Gorondia Rediscovered, and freeing the Gorons from the marbled rock roast craze is what this whole quest is about.
Fire Temple FAQ
Where is the Fire Temple in Tears of the Kingdom?
In the Depths beneath Death Mountain. You reach it by dropping into the pit at the volcano’s summit during the Yunobo of Goron City quest.
How many gongs are in the Fire Temple?
Five. Each one opens a padlock on the main door, and they can be rung in any order.
How do you reach the fifth gong on 5F?
Use a rocket-powered cart to cross the broken track, then build a glider with two rockets and fans from 4F. Recall on a block also works.
How do you beat Marbled Gohma?
Fire Yunobo at its legs until it falls, then attack the eye. In phase two, launch Yunobo up the walls to knock it off the ceiling.
Do you need fire resistance for the Fire Temple?
You need it for Death Mountain on the way. One piece of Flamebreaker armor or a Fireproof Elixir does the job.
Pro Tip: if a cart ride sends you somewhere weird, don’t panic. Look at the rails, find the next switch and try again. Five gongs, one spider, one shiny new heart. You’re winning!
