Fighting a giant ice creature while you freefall through a storm sounds terrifying. Colgera, the Scourge of the Wind Temple, turns out to be one of the friendlier boss fights in Tears of the Kingdom once you understand its rhythm.

This guide covers how to reach the fight, what to bring, how both phases work, and what you get for winning. There’s no wrong way to approach this, so pick the method that feels comfortable and take it at your own pace.

Where Colgera Is and How the Fight Starts

Colgera is the boss of the Wind Temple, the frozen flying ship high above Rito Village in the Hebra sky. You reach it during the main quest Tulin of Rito Village, which grows out of the Regional Phenomena quest. Tulin travels with you the whole way, and his gust is the tool that solves the temple.

Inside the temple you have five locks to open, each one a turbine that you spin with Tulin’s gust. The puzzles around them lean on Ultrahand, Ascend and Recall, so it helps to be comfortable with all three. Once the fifth lock is open, head back up to the top deck and Colgera bursts out of the storm.

What to Bring

The fight itself is forgiving, but the cold and the long stretches in the air punish a thin inventory. Here’s your checklist:

  • Checklist: Cold protection, ideally the Snowquill set sold in Rito Village, or a cooked meal with a cold resistance effect.
  • Checklist: At least one decent bow and 40 or more arrows. You will miss a few while drifting.
  • Checklist: Fire Fruit to fuse onto arrows. Fire melts the ice that covers each weak spot much faster than plain arrows.
  • Checklist: Keese Eyeballs. Fused to an arrow, they make it home in on a target, which is a lifesaver while you are spinning through the air.
  • Checklist: A few healing meals. If you need ideas, our best recipes guide lists the strongest dishes.

Take Your Time: The Wind Temple entrance works as a travel point, so if the first attempt goes badly you can restock and come straight back.

What changes between the two phases of the Colgera fight.

Phase 1: Breaking the Three Weak Spots

Colgera’s weak spots are glowing pinkish purple discs on its body, each sealed under a layer of ice. Most of them face downward, so the classic approach is to glide underneath, draw your bow to slow time, and shoot up into the ice. A plain arrow chips the ice; a fire fused arrow clears it far faster. Keep hitting the same spot until it shatters.

You can also skip the bow entirely. When Colgera flies below you, close your paraglider, drop onto the exposed weak spot and attack it directly. It is slower and riskier, but it saves arrows. Your stamina refills while you freefall with the paraglider closed, so drop for a moment between attempts to recover.

Watch for two moves:

  • Ice shards: Colgera spits sharp chunks of ice at you. Glide sideways or use Tulin’s gust to get clear. When it fires them, the weak spots on its head and back are often easier to reach from above.
  • Portal lunge: Colgera dives into a dark orb and vanishes. A second orb opens nearby, usually close to you, and it charges out at speed. Move away the moment you see the orb forming, then turn back for a free shot.

Break all three weak spots and Colgera retreats through a portal, which ends phase 1.

The whole Colgera fight happens in open sky, so you are always gliding or falling.

Phase 2: Tornadoes and the Finish

Colgera returns with its weak spots restored, so you are breaking three again. The new problem is tornadoes. It summons several of them, and they knock you around and deal heavy damage if you get caught.

The fix is simple. Keep some distance so you can see the tornadoes drift, and when one gets close, use Tulin’s gust to push yourself away. If you are quick, you can rise above them before going back for the weak spots. Diving attacks get harder here because the tornadoes keep pushing you off line, so this is where homing Keese Eyeball arrows earn their place.

Shatter the last three weak spots and Colgera falls.

Rewards and What Comes Next

  • Missable! Colgera drops a Heart Container. It is not added automatically, so pick it up before you move on.
  • Checklist: Cutscenes follow, including the Secret Stone of the ancient Sage of Wind.
  • Checklist: Tulin’s Vow, which lets Tulin’s spirit join you anywhere so his gust is always available while you glide.
  • Checklist: The Wind Temple counts as complete for the Regional Phenomena main quest.

Lore Connection: This random detail actually connects to the bigger story: the blizzard that has been battering Rito Village is tied to the temple, and beating Colgera is what finally lets the skies over Hebra clear.

Extra Tips for a Smoother Fight

  • Bow time is stamina time: Aiming in midair drains stamina. Fire, then close the paraglider and freefall for a moment, which refills stamina, before the next shot.
  • Stamina upgrades help: A single extra stamina wheel makes the fight much calmer. You can trade Lights of Blessing at a Goddess Statue for it.
  • Fuse ahead of time: If you are new to fusing materials, read our Fuse guide before the temple so the menu feels familiar under pressure.

Colgera FAQ

Where is Colgera in Tears of the Kingdom?

Colgera is the boss of the Wind Temple, the flying ship above Rito Village in the Hebra sky. You fight it during the Tulin of Rito Village main quest.

How many weak spots does Colgera have?

Three per phase. You break three ice covered weak spots in phase 1, then three again after Colgera returns through a portal in phase 2.

What is the easiest way to beat Colgera?

Glide close beneath it and shoot the weak spots with fire fused arrows. Add Keese Eyeballs for homing shots and use Tulin’s gust to escape the phase 2 tornadoes.

What do you get for beating Colgera?

A Heart Container, which you must pick up yourself, plus Tulin’s Vow so you can call on Tulin’s gust anywhere in Hyrule.

Can you beat Colgera without arrows?

Yes. You can drop onto exposed weak spots and attack them directly, though it is slower and the tornadoes make it harder in phase 2.

One more thing before you move on: the skills Colgera teaches you, gliding with purpose, aiming in slow motion and leaning on Tulin, carry through the rest of the game. It’s a marathon, not a sprint, so enjoy the clear skies over Hebra before heading to the next temple.
