A Sheikah Tower rising over green fields and distant mountains in Breath of the Wild

Tabantha is the Rito corner of Hyrule: big lakes, pine forests, wind everywhere and the snowy Hebra Mountains looming to the north. It is also where you deal with Divine Beast Vah Medoh, so every playthrough ends up here sooner or later.

Here’s how to get the most out of it: the tower climb, all six shrines, the quests worth your time and a route that keeps you warm and moving.

Tabantha at a Glance

The region covered by the Tabantha Tower map stretches from the Tabantha Great Bridge in the east out to the Rito lands around Lake Totori. The lowlands are pleasant, but the cold bites as you climb toward Hebra.

  • Home Base: Rito Village, built around a rock spire in Lake Totori. Elder Kaneli starts the Vah Medoh main quest here.
  • Stables: Rito Stable sits south of the village, and Tabantha Bridge Stable guards the eastern end of the great bridge.
  • Threats: Bokoblin, Moblin and Lizalfos camps, plus a Guardian Skywatcher patrolling the open ground past the bridge.
  • Shrines: six in the base game, two of them hidden until you finish their shrine quests.

Step by Step: Your Tabantha Route

Kick off from the east, since most players arrive over the Tabantha Great Bridge. This order unlocks the map first and saves backtracking.

  • Step 1, prep for the cold: pack a couple of Spicy Elixirs or pepper dishes (think Spicy Meat and Seafood Fry). Our BOTW cooking guide has every warming recipe.
  • Step 2, Tabantha Bridge Stable: register your horse and talk to Toren to pick up A Gift for the Great Fairy (more on that below).
  • Step 3, cross the bridge: the Skywatcher sweeps the path beyond it. Climb the hill just after the bridge to stay out of its spotlight.
  • Step 4, climb Tabantha Tower: it stands on a hill northwest of the bridge. Details in the next section.
  • Step 5, head for Rito Village: stop at Rito Stable on the way, then cross the long bridge into the village and rest at the inn.

How to Climb Tabantha Tower

Bokoblins, Moblins and Lizalfos camp on the hill, so clear or sneak past them first. The Tabantha Tower has a little trick to it:

  • The Setup: climb the stone column southwest of the tower.
  • The Shot: from up there, shoot the eyeball on the column north of the tower. That column topples onto the tower.
  • The Climb: scramble up the fallen column and finish the ascent with plenty of stamina to spare.

(Pro tip: once you own Revali’s Gale, an updraft at the base lets you skip most of the climbing on towers like this one.) Nailed it? The whole Tabantha map is yours.

All Six Tabantha Shrines

Here’s the full breakdown. Two of these only appear after a shrine quest, so do not panic if you cannot see them on the map yet.

  • Kah Okeo: the entrance is buried under a metal slab. Lift it with Magnesis.
  • Tena Ko’sah: a Guardian Scout fight. Bring a sturdy shield and a few good one-handed weapons.

Rito Village Quests

Rito Village is a quest hub. Grab these while you are in town:

  • Divine Beast Vah Medoh (main quest): talk to Elder Kaneli, then meet Teba at the Flight Range. Calming Vah Medoh earns you a Heart Container and Revali’s Gale.
  • The Apple of My Eye: Juney wants a Baked Apple. Drop an apple near a campfire, let it roast, done.
  • The Spark of Romance: from Jogo in the village.
  • Face the Frost Talus: from Gesane, a fight against an ice Talus. Bring fire arrows or a fire weapon.
  • A Curry for What Ails You: from Lester at Rito Stable, just south of the village.

After Vah Medoh

Calming the Divine Beast opens up three more quests, two of them hiding shrines:

  • Find Kheel: from Amali, whose daughter has wandered off.
  • Recital at Warbler’s Nest: Kheel is singing alone at Warbler’s Nest and wants her sisters back for rehearsal. One of them, Genli, wants Salmon Meunière first (Hearty Salmon, Tabantha Wheat and Goat Butter at the cooking pot). Finish it and Voo Lota rises.
  • The Ancient Rito Song: follow the song’s riddle to a pedestal south of the village and light a fire on it when a shadow passes over. That reveals Bareeda Naag.

Gearing Up for the Cold

The armor shop in Rito Village sells the Snowquill set (headdress, tunic and trousers), which gives cold resistance and keeps you comfortable well into Hebra. Your best bet is to buy it as soon as you can afford it.

North of Tabantha the snow starts. Snowquill armor keeps you warm.
  • Set Bonus: upgrade all three pieces twice at a Great Fairy and the set becomes unfreezable.
  • Budget Option: warming food or a Spicy Elixir covers short trips if your wallet is empty.
  • Heading North: Hebra past the Tabantha Tundra is properly freezing, so wear the full set before you go.

Pro Tips for Tabantha

  • Unlock Kaysa: Toren at Tabantha Bridge Stable hands you 500 rupees for the offering. Kaysa’s fountain is on the northwest edge of Piper Ridge; from the top of Tabantha Tower in the afternoon, the tower’s shadow points the way. See our Great Fairy Kaysa page.
  • Respect the Skywatcher: on horseback, time your run between its spotlights. On foot, hug the hills.
  • Practice gliding: the Flight Range is the best place in the game to get comfortable with updrafts before Medoh.

Done with the Rito? Akkala is a great next stop for gear, and our Akkala region guide covers it. Oh, and if you are deciding between Zelda games, check out which one to play first.

Tabantha FAQ

How many shrines are in Tabantha in Breath of the Wild?

Six in the base game: Akh Va’quot, Sha Warvo, Bareeda Naag, Voo Lota, Tena Ko’sah and Kah Okeo. Voo Lota and Bareeda Naag only appear after their shrine quests.

How do you get up Tabantha Tower?

Climb the column southwest of the tower, then shoot the eyeball on the column to the north. It falls against the tower and gives you a ramp to climb.

Where do you buy cold resistance armor near Rito Village?

The armor shop inside Rito Village sells the Snowquill set. Upgraded twice, the full set makes you unfreezable.

How do you unlock Voo Lota Shrine?

Finish Vah Medoh, then talk to Kheel at Warbler’s Nest to start Recital at Warbler’s Nest. Gather her sisters, cook Salmon Meunière for Genli, and the shrine rises after the song.

Your Call: Tabantha rewards players who slow down. Clear the tower, grab the Snowquill set, then come back after Vah Medoh for the two hidden shrines. Rush it and you will miss half the fun; take your time and you’re winning!
