Ridgeland is the rugged stretch of Breath of the Wild you cross heading west from Central Hyrule toward Rito Village. It has a tower in the middle of a storm soaked lake, a plateau that’s permanently getting struck by lightning, horseback Bokoblins in the fields and seven shrines, two of which stay hidden until you crack their shrine quests.

I mapped out a route that clears the whole region with minimal backtracking. Science time.

Ridgeland region quick facts.

The Tech: Thundra Plateau, just west of the tower, is pounded by lightning until you finish the Trial of Thunder, and the lake around Ridgeland Tower is often stormy too. That means rain (slippery climbing) and lightning (metal gear is a liability). Plan around it.

Ridgeland Tower is the first stop: it fills in the whole region map.

How to Climb Ridgeland Tower

The tower stands in the middle of a lake crawling with Electric Lizalfos carrying Thunderspears and Electric Wizzrobes with Lightning Rods. It’s in a wide valley, so you can’t just paraglide in from a nearby peak.

  1. Cross with Cryonis. Build ice blocks across the water. You’re exposed on them, so move steadily.
  2. Sneak or isolate. Your bow range is limited from an ice block. Sneak past where you can, and if you fight, pull enemies one at a time.
  3. Freeze threats. Ice Arrows lock enemies in place long enough for you to keep moving.
  4. Climb without stopping. The Electric Wizzrobe targets you if you hang still on the tower. Keep moving and it mostly misses.
  5. Activate the terminal at the top to fill in the map.

Exploit Alert: with Revali’s Gale you can skip most of the lake. Get close, launch, and glide onto the tower. Wizzrobes can still harass you on the lower ledges, but it beats a 20 block ice bridge.

(Loot note: there are chests in the lake, including a floating wooden one just north of the tower with five Fire Arrows.)

Trial of Thunder (Toh Yahsa)

Walk onto Thundra Plateau and the monk’s voice offers you the trial. Find the four orbs scattered on the plateau and drop each into the basin under its matching pillar. Once all four are matched, Toh Yahsa Shrine rises from the middle of the plateau. Finishing the shrine ends the storm.

For the tech nerds: lightning targets metal. Unequip metal weapons and shields while you carry orbs around, or use wooden gear.

The Two Rings (Sheem Dagoze)

Kass stands on high ground among the stone rings of the West Hyrule Plains, south of Ridgeland Tower and just north of the bridge to Nima Plain. Listen to his song to start the quest. The trick is to shoot a single arrow through both stone rings at once. Multishot bows don’t count, so equip a single shot bow.

Tabantha Bridge Stable and A Gift for the Great Fairy

Tabantha Bridge Stable is your base for the region. Rest, register horses and pick up quests. The one worth doing right away is A Gift for the Great Fairy: Toren gives you 500 Rupees and asks you to make an offering on his behalf. The Great Fairy Kaysa’s fountain is near Tabantha Tower, north of the stable. Open it with the offering, then report back to Toren.

The payoff isn’t a big item, it’s armor upgrades for the rest of the game. Our Tabantha Bridge Stable page and Great Fairy Kaysa page have the exact spots on the map.

  1. Arrive from Central Hyrule and climb Ridgeland Tower first.
  2. Do Trial of Thunder on Thundra Plateau to kill the storm.
  3. Sweep south and west for Mijah Rokee, Mogg Latan and Zalta Wa.
  4. Catch Kass at the stone rings for Sheem Dagoze.
  5. Head northwest to Tabantha Bridge Stable and Shae Loya.
  6. Finish with Maag No’rah’s cave on the way toward Hebra.

Korok hunters: the region is packed with seeds, and our Ridgeland Korok seed page plus the BOTW interactive map help you track them. The Ridgeland Tower page marks the tower itself.

Ridgeland FAQ

Seven: Shae Loya, Zalta Wa, Mijah Rokee, Mogg Latan, Maag No’rah, Toh Yahsa and Sheem Dagoze.

How do you get to Ridgeland Tower?

Cross the lake with Cryonis ice blocks, or use Revali’s Gale to launch onto the tower. Keep moving while climbing to dodge the Electric Wizzrobe.

How do you stop the storm in Ridgeland?

Complete the Trial of Thunder on Thundra Plateau and clear Toh Yahsa Shrine.

How do you solve The Two Rings?

Test Results: tower first, storm second, everything else falls into place. Ridgeland goes from miserable to pleasant the moment that thunder stops.
