Close up of Mipha, the Zora Champion, with a glowing healing light in Breath of the Wild

Lanayru is the wet, blue corner of Breath of the Wild’s Hyrule: rivers pouring off the mountains, the Lanayru Wetlands spreading out below, and Zora’s Domain glowing at the top of it all. It’s also one of the densest regions in the game for side content, so it rewards a slow pace.

Here’s your checklist for the region: how to reach and climb Lanayru Tower, all nine shrines, the two shrine quests, and the Zora’s Domain side quests worth picking up while you’re there for Vah Ruta.

Lanayru Tower: Getting Up

Lanayru Tower stands in the Lanayru Wetlands, east of Central Hyrule and north of the Dueling Peaks. The Wetland Stable is close by, so it’s a natural first stop on the road toward Zora’s Domain.

  • Approach: the tower sits up on a raised cliff, and enemies around the base can hit you while you climb the rock face.
  • Best route: use the ladder on the northwest side of the tower. That side lets you reach the tower without taking hits on the way up.
  • Stamina: the climb is long. Bring stamina food or an elixir if your wheel is still small.
  • Weather: Lanayru gets a lot of rain, which makes surfaces slippery. Wait it out at the stable or a campfire if a storm rolls in.

Take Your Time: the tower reveals the whole region’s map, which makes every shrine below much easier to plan. Climb it first.

All 9 Lanayru Shrines

Here’s your checklist. These are the nine shrines in the area that Lanayru Tower adds to your map.

Missable! Shai Yota and Dagah Keek don’t fully appear until you complete their shrine quests. If your shrine count looks stuck at seven in Lanayru, those two are why.

Zora’s Domain and Vah Ruta

The main quest brings you to Zora’s Domain to deal with Divine Beast Vah Ruta, which is flooding the region with endless rain. Prince Sidon meets you on the way up, and King Dorephan gives you the Zora Armor, which lets you swim up waterfalls.

  • Shock Arrows: the quest sends you up Ploymus Mountain for shock arrows, right past the Red-Maned Lynel. Grab the arrows and get out; you don’t have to fight it.
  • The Beast: our Vah Ruta guide covers the fight on the reservoir and the dungeon itself.
  • Reward: beating it earns Mipha’s Grace, an automatic revive when your hearts run out.

Zora’s Domain Side Quests

You’d be surprised what’s hiding in the side content here. Most of these start within a short walk of the throne room.

Lanayru Tips

  • Bring shock resistance: Lizalfos with electric attacks and shock arrows are common around Zora’s Domain. A rubber armor piece or electro elixir helps.
  • Use the Wetland Stable: register your horse there before you push north. The road beyond is narrow and full of Lizalfos.
  • Leave the Lynel for later: the Ploymus Lynel is one of the easier Lynels, but it still hits hard for a mid-game Link.
  • Grab the Koroks: our Zora’s Domain Korok guide has the ones around the town.

One more thing before you move on: if you’re weighing a jump to the sequel, our BOTW or TOTK comparison helps you decide when to make the switch.

Vincenzo Antoniani has spent more hours exploring hostile alien biomes than most people spend commuting to work. Whether he's diving for Managed Democracy in Helldivers 2, scavenging the dunes of Arrakis in Dune: Awakening, or getting chased by something with too many teeth in Subnautica 2, Vincenzo brings a survivor's eye for detail to everything he writes. He's also a longtime World of Warcraft raider who somehow still finds time to explore every new planet, ocean, and desert gaming throws at him. When he's not narrowly escaping death in a procedurally generated nightmare, Vincenzo is digging through patch notes, testing builds, and figuring out the fastest way to not die so you don't have to learn the hard way. Expect guides that are equal parts practical and slightly haunted by whatever killed him last.
