So here’s the deal: the first time I opened the full Hogwarts Legacy map, I just stared at it. A castle, a village, and a sprawl of Highlands that keeps going south to the sea, all of it dotted with question marks. Where do you even start?
This guide is the bird’s eye view. It covers how the map is split, what every region holds, which collectibles count toward completion, and a route that keeps exploring fun instead of overwhelming.
How the Hogwarts Legacy Map Is Split
The world is made of three layers: Hogwarts Castle, Hogsmeade village, and the open Highlands around them. Hogwarts and Hogsmeade each get their own map, and the Highlands are divided into 14 regions. That makes 16 named areas in total.
| Area | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Hogwarts | The castle itself: classes, common rooms, puzzles and the most Floo Flames |
| Hogsmeade | The village: shops, vendors and many side quests |
| Hogsmeade Valley | Hills and roads around the village |
| Hogwarts Valley | Keenbridge, Brocburrow and the railway viaduct |
| North Hogwarts Region | Rivers and woods north of the castle |
| South Hogwarts Region | The Quidditch pitch, Aranshire and cliffs south of the castle |
| Forbidden Forest | Jackdaw’s Tomb, poacher camps and dangerous beasts |
| North Ford Bog | Wetlands around Pitt-Upon-Ford |
| Feldcroft Region | Feldcroft hamlet, Rookwood Castle and the Feldcroft Catacombs |
| South Sea Bog | Marshland with creature lairs and dens |
| Coastal Cavern | Creature lairs, dens and trails to follow |
| Poidsear Coast | Poidsear Castle and a long stretch of coastline |
| Clagmar Coast | Clagmar Castle on the cliffs above the bay |
| Marunweem Lake | Lakeside region, explored later in the story |
| Manor Cape | A coastal headland with chests, trials and Infamous Foes |
| Cragcroftshire | One of the smaller regions, easy to overlook |
You will naturally start in the middle of the map around the castle, push outward with the story, and only reach the southern coasts later on. Each region has its own enemy levels, so if a fight feels brutal, that is the game telling you to come back later.

What Every Region Tracks
Open the map, select a region, and the game shows a checklist of what it holds. Here is what those categories mean.
- Field Guide Pages: the main collectible. Each one gives XP and fills in your Field Guide. Different page types need different spells (more on that below).
- Collection Chests: tracked chests with gear appearances, wand handles and conjuration recipes. They unlock cosmetic looks rather than new stats.
- Demiguise Statues: bronze statues you can see during the day but can only collect at night, when they turn translucent and the moon glows blue. Collect the moons inside and trade them to Gladwin Moon for Alohomora upgrades.
- Merlin Trials: small puzzles started with Mallowsweet leaves. Completing them raises your gear inventory slots.
- Ancient Magic Hotspots, Balloons, Astronomy Tables and Landing Platforms: smaller tracked activities scattered across the Highlands.
- Infamous Foes: named mini bosses that are a real test of your build.
Not every region has every category. The smaller southern regions, for example, list a handful of chests and trials rather than dozens.
Field Guide Page Types
This is where it gets interesting. Pages are not just lying around; most of them are tiny puzzles that need a specific spell.
- Revelio pages: artifacts, artwork and points of interest. Cast Revelio when you hear a faint chime and walk up to the highlighted object.
- Flying pages: enchanted pages that loop through the air on a fixed path. Wait for one to come around and pull it down with Accio.
- Moth paintings: blank frames with a missing moth. Use Lumos to lure the moths back into the frame.
- Orb statues: statues holding a stone orb. Cast Levioso on the orb and the statue reveals the hidden page.
Easily missed: some pages need spells you have not learned yet. If you find a puzzle you cannot solve, mark it and come back after the next class.

A Route That Doesn’t Burn You Out
- Learn the castle first. Hogwarts has the densest cluster of Floo Flames. Lighting them early makes everything later faster.
- Follow the story outward. Main quests introduce new regions at a sensible pace and give you the spells their puzzles need.
- Clear one region at a time. Pick a region, light its Floo Flames, then work through its checklist before moving on.
- Fly once you can. Your broom turns cross country trips into a minute of flying and lets you spot chests and balloons from above.
- Save Demiguise runs for night. Use the wait option to skip to nighttime and sweep a region’s statues in one go.
- Come back with new spells. Regions you think are done often hide a page or two that needed a later spell.
The Payoff: exploring is where the game shows off. Hamlets with their own small stories, ruins tied to the ancient magic plot, and views that make you stop just to look. When I first flew over the southern coast I forgot what I was even looking for.

Hogwarts Legacy Regions FAQ
How many regions are in Hogwarts Legacy?
The Highlands have 14 regions, and Hogwarts and Hogsmeade have their own maps, for 16 areas in total.
What collectibles does each region track?
Field Guide Pages, Collection Chests, Demiguise Statues, Merlin Trials and smaller activities like balloons, Astronomy Tables, Ancient Magic Hotspots and Infamous Foes.
Why can’t I see Demiguise Statues?
They only appear at night. Use the wait option on the map to skip to nighttime.
What do Merlin Trials give you?
Completing them increases your gear inventory slots, so you can carry more gear.
Which region should I explore first?
Start with Hogwarts itself, then follow the story outward. The southern coasts are best saved for later because of their enemy levels.
Here’s Where It Gets Wild: once your Floo network is lit and your broom is upgraded, the whole map shrinks. Take it one region at a time, and the Highlands stop feeling like a checklist and start feeling like a place.
