If you’ve been drifting back through the halls of Hogwarts Legacy and wondering when the next chapter arrives, you’re in good company. The sequel is real, it’s officially in development, and that’s very nearly the full list of confirmed facts as of October 12, 2026.

So let’s sort the solid ground from the guesswork. Below you’ll find what Warner Bros. has actually said, what reputable outlets have reported, and what is still a blank page. Take it at your own pace.

Is Hogwarts Legacy 2 Confirmed?

Yes. In its second quarter 2026 shareholder letter, published on August 6, 2026, Warner Bros. Discovery said it expects Games to contribute more to its Studios profits as the pipeline expands, “including the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy.”

That’s a company filing, not a leak, so you can treat development as confirmed. What it isn’t is a reveal. There’s no title, no trailer, no platforms and no release date, and neither Warner Bros. Games nor Avalanche Software has formally presented the game.

Here’s Your Checklist

  • Officially in development: yes, per the August 2026 shareholder letter.
  • Official title: not announced. “Hogwarts Legacy 2” is just what everyone calls it.
  • Trailer or gameplay: none shown.
  • Release date or window: not announced.
  • Platforms: not announced.
  • Developer: not formally named, though Avalanche Software made the first game and reporting points to the same team.

Confirmed Timeline So Far

Completionists, you’ll want to know where each piece of the story comes from. Here’s every milestone that traces back to Warner Bros. itself, plus the one big report that matters.

The HBO Series Connection

This random detail actually connects to the bigger picture. In a November 2024 interview with Variety, David Haddad said Warner Bros. Games was coordinating some big picture storytelling elements of the sequel with the upcoming Harry Potter series. He didn’t say which story beats would cross over.

The same August letter confirms the series premieres on Christmas Day 2026, with Warner Bros. Discovery planning a big marketing push around it in the fourth quarter. It’s natural to expect game news to orbit that launch, but nobody at Warner Bros. has tied a reveal to the show’s date.

One thing not to confuse with the sequel: in March 2025, Bloomberg reported that Warner Bros. had cancelled a planned expansion and Definitive Edition for the original Hogwarts Legacy. Neither had been announced, and the sequel was not affected.

  • Lore Connection: the first game is set in the 1890s, roughly a century before Harry’s school years. Exactly how a sequel lines up with a show about Harry hasn’t been explained.
  • Take Your Time: “shares story elements” can mean anything from a shared character to a single event. Don’t read a modern day setting into it until Warner Bros. says so.

Why Warner Bros. Is Betting on It

The first game is the main reason this sequel exists. Warner Bros. Games has reorganised around a handful of big franchises, and the shareholder letter describes a strategy centred on four $1 billion plus franchises, with Harry Potter among them.

  • Sales: more than 40 million copies, a milestone Warner Bros. Games and Avalanche announced in December 2025.
  • Reach: playable on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch and Switch 2.
  • Priority: in 2024, Warner Bros. Discovery’s finance chief called a follow up one of the company’s biggest priorities.

Whether the sequel brings back your custom student is still unannounced.

What We Don’t Know Yet

This is one of those moments worth slowing down for, because most “Hogwarts Legacy 2” headlines fill these gaps with guesses. None of the following has been announced:

  • Protagonist: whether you return as the same student, create a new one, or play someone else entirely.
  • Setting and era: no location or time period has been confirmed.
  • Multiplayer: nothing official. Old job listings sparked talk, but job listings aren’t announcements.
  • Release window: no year has been given. Any date you see is speculation.

If a claim doesn’t come from Warner Bros. Discovery, Warner Bros. Games, Avalanche or a named, reputable reporter, file it under “maybe.”

How to Spend the Wait

There’s no wrong way to approach this, but the first game still has plenty to give. You’d be surprised what’s hiding in the side content.

  1. Step 1: Finish the Merlin Trials and Field Guide pages you abandoned. Our Hogwarts Legacy interactive map makes the cleanup far less painful.
  2. Step 2: Replay the side quests. The companion questlines carry most of the game’s best writing.
  3. Step 3: Follow official channels: Warner Bros. Games, the Hogwarts Legacy accounts and Avalanche Software. A real reveal will land there first.
  4. Step 4: Coming in fresh? Read whether Hogwarts Legacy is still worth playing in 2026 before you pick an edition.

Hogwarts Legacy 2 FAQ

Is Hogwarts Legacy 2 officially confirmed?

Yes. Warner Bros. Discovery’s August 6, 2026 shareholder letter refers to “the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy.” There has been no formal reveal yet.

When is the Hogwarts Legacy 2 release date?

There isn’t one. Warner Bros. has not announced a release date or even a release year.

Is there a Hogwarts Legacy 2 trailer?

No. No trailer, screenshots or gameplay have been shown. Any “trailer” online right now is fan made.

Will Hogwarts Legacy 2 connect to the HBO series?

Partly. WB Games president David Haddad said in 2024 the sequel would share big picture story elements with the show. The details are unknown.

Which platforms will Hogwarts Legacy 2 be on?

Not announced. The first game reached every major platform, including Switch 2, but that guarantees nothing for the sequel.

One more thing before you move on: the sequel is a marathon, not a sprint, and the official trail is still short. We’ll keep this page updated as soon as Warner Bros. shares more. Until then, the Hogwarts Legacy hub has everything you need to squeeze the last secrets out of the original.
