Mogg Latan Shrine looks like a friendly Magnesis workout. Then you meet swinging platforms, a drawbridge dangling from ropes, and spiked balls with a personal grudge against your face.

This guide covers the full route, all three treasure chests, the hidden Korok seed, and a shortcut that skips most of the puzzle. Think the shrine designers saw that coming? Plot twist: they did, and they left it in anyway.

Spoiler: the fast route is not even close to the intended one. We’ll cover both, because you deserve options.

Mogg Latan Shrine Location and Overview

You’ll find this shrine in the Ridgeland region, on the Satori Mountain side of the map. It sits southwest of Ridgeland Tower, so fast travel there and head south.

Actually, let’s look at the numbers before you walk in.

  • The Math: 3 treasure chests (one of them a 300-rupee Gold Rupee hiding near the Monk’s platform), 1 Korok seed outside, and 1 Spirit Orb. The trial is called Synced Swing.
  • Location: Ridgeland region, southwest of Ridgeland Tower, near the peak of Satori Mountain.
  • Required Runes: Magnesis and Stasis. You already own both, so no excuses.
  • Required Gear: A bow and a handful of arrows. Fire arrows if you want the shortcut.
  • Puzzle Theme: Timing, moving metal platforms, and freezing spiked balls so they stop trying to end you.
  • Difficulty: Low, if you read the room. Medium, if you charge in and swing at things.

Mogg Latan Shrine Walkthrough: Step-by-Step Solution

Here’s the full intended route, start to finish. Follow it in order and you’ll collect everything on the way.

  • Step 1: Grab the Korok Seed First. Before you enter, face the shrine and look to your right. You’ll see a pile of dead leaves. Set them on fire, wait for the flames to burn out, then lift the rock that appears to find the Korok.
  • Step 2: Cross the Swinging Platforms. Two metallic swings sway gently at the start. If you’re quick, jump onto the first one and then onto the small platform beyond it.

For the second swing, use Magnesis to pull it toward you and let it go. It swings back and forth, so jump on when it’s closest to you. Hop off at the far walkway.

(Pro tip: Don’t rush the jump. A swinging platform at full extension is a free swim in the void.)

  • Step 3: Drop the Drawbridge. A large drawbridge blocks your path. Aim your bow at the ropes at the top holding it up and shoot them. Down it goes, and you can walk across to the next platform.
  • Step 4: Handle the Spiked Balls. Three spiked metal balls on chains guard the next stretch. Use Magnesis to set the first one swinging away from the platform. While it’s out there, freeze it with Stasis. Walk past, then repeat for the second and third.

Hot Take: Stasis on a swinging spiked ball is the most satisfying ‘no’ in the whole game. The ball has one job, and you cancelled it.

  • Step 5: Loot the Chest (Optional). Want the chest at the end of the plank? Move the fourth spiked ball with Magnesis. There’s enough time to open the chest and get back to the steps. Inside, you’ll find a Forest Dweller’s Bow.
  • Step 6: Build a Magnesis Staircase. Backtrack and climb the steps. Use Magnesis to pull the platforms on rails toward you and stack them into a makeshift staircase. A little ingenuity goes a long way here.
  • Step 7: Snag the Gold Rupee Chest. At the end of the third platform on rails, jump off and paraglide down to the area below the Monk’s platform. A chest waits there with a gold rupee worth 300 rupees.
  • Step 8: Rebuild Your Way Back. Use Magnesis to create a staircase back to where you started. Then recreate the first staircase you built and exit onto solid ground.

Yes, you’re redoing that platform stacking. The shrine charges a small tax for 300 free rupees.

  • Step 9: Reveal the Metal Doors. Hit the switch to reveal lanterns and sever their ropes with an arrow. Alternatively, shoot the dead leaves with a fire arrow to burn them away. Either way, the metallic doors are now exposed.
  • Step 10: Push the Doors Open. Use Magnesis to shove the doors open at the top of the ramp. The Monk is right behind them.
  • Step 11: Meet Mogg Latan. Talk to the Monk and collect your Spirit Orb. Shrine complete.

The Shortcut Nobody Is Mad About

Here’s the secret: you can skip nearly everything above. Shoot a fire arrow at the foliage (the vines) hiding the metal doors. Then use Magnesis to push the doors out and walk straight to the Monk.

Actually Do This: If you only want the Spirit Orb, take the shortcut. If you want the chests, do the full route and then use the fire arrow on your way out. Efficiency isn’t cheating. It’s a build.

Rewards and Benefits

Here’s what a full clear nets you. Not bad for one shrine.

  • Spirit Orb: Awarded by Mogg Latan himself. Four of these buy you a Heart Container or Stamina Vessel at a Goddess Statue.
  • Korok Seed: From the burnt leaf pile outside. Hestu’s inventory won’t expand itself.
  • Forest Dweller’s Bow: From the chest by the fourth spiked ball. A Korok-themed bow with a quick shot.
  • Forest Dweller’s Spear: From the chest on the right side of the fourth platform.
  • Gold Rupee (300): Hidden under the Monk’s platform. That’s a lot of rupees for one paraglide.

Lore Drop: Every shrine monk hands over a Spirit Orb as proof you passed the trial. The devs buried this gem in the structure itself: shrines are built to test whether you can think with the Sheikah Slate’s tools. Mogg Latan’s trial tests Magnesis and Stasis together.

Pro Tips

  • Bring Fire Early: Carry a fire source or fire arrows before you enter. You’ll want them for the Korok leaves and the final doors. (Pro tip: Fire fruit or a lit torch works if you don’t have fire arrows.)
  • Time the Swing: Jump onto swinging platforms when they’re closest to you, not when they’re moving away. Gravity is not a negotiator.
  • Freeze Then Walk: With spiked balls, wait until the ball is away from the platform before using Stasis. Freeze it too early and it may block your path.
  • Stack Smart: Pull the rail platforms to form clean steps. Messy stairs mean more jumping and more falling.
  • Paraglide for the Gold: Jump off the third rail platform and glide toward the area under the Monk’s platform. It saves you a lot of awkward climbing.
  • Save Before the Chest Run: The fourth spiked ball is the only truly punishing part. Quicksave if you like living dangerously without consequences.

Why Mogg Latan Shrine Matters

On paper this is a simple shrine. In practice, it teaches you to combine Magnesis and Stasis, use your bow for puzzles, and ask whether the intended route is really the best one.

The Monk’s door is the real lesson. A fire arrow can undo ten minutes of platform juggling, which is classic Breath of the Wild. The game rewards players who experiment.

So, did you take the long way for the chests, or torch the vines and speedrun the Spirit Orb? Drop your route in the comments and tell me which spiked ball gave you the most trouble.
