Three chests in one shrine. In a game where most shrines hand you one chest and a pat on the head, that is practically a lottery win. The catch? Marari-in Shrine is locked inside a pirate cave on Eventide Island, and the island’s Monster Forces have to go first.

Let me break this down for you. Marari-in is not a puzzle shrine at all. It is a Rauru’s Blessing shrine, so the real test is the side quest Seeking the Pirate Hideout and a short plank bridge at the end. Here is the full route, the chest list and the mistakes that cost people time.

Marari-in Shrine Location and Overview

Marari-in Shrine sits at the back of Eventide Island Cave, on Eventide Island off the southeast coast of Hyrule in the Necluda Sea. The cave entrance is barred until you clear the pirates inside, which only happens through Sesami’s quest.

Lore Drop: in Breath of the Wild, Eventide Island stripped you of every item and made you survive with sticks and coconuts. Tears of the Kingdom drops that gimmick and parks a monster pirate crew on the island instead.

Getting to Eventide Island

Eventide is a long way from the mainland, and swimming the whole gap is a stamina trap. You have three sensible options.

  • Build a boat: a raft with a fan or two and a steering stick crosses the Necluda Sea without drama. Bring spare batteries or a few Zonai charges.
  • Fly it: a Zonai wing or a hover vehicle launched from a high cliff on the southeast coast can carry you most of the way.
  • Skydive: drop from a sky island or high point and paraglide the final stretch if your stamina wheel allows it.

A Zonai flying build saves you the long swim to Eventide Island.

Actually Do This: count your battery cells before you leave shore. A dead battery halfway across the sea is a very long swim (yes, really).

Marari-in Shrine Walkthrough: Step by Step

The shrine itself takes about a minute. The quest is the real content. Follow these steps in order and you will skip the usual wandering.

Step 1: Talk to Sesami

Find Sesami of the monster-control crew at his red tent on the north end of the island and accept Seeking the Pirate Hideout. He wants the Monster Forces in the island’s three strongholds wiped out. The camps show up as markers on your map.

Step 2: Clear the Three Strongholds

Each stronghold is a standard Bokoblin and Moblin camp. Zonai devices and weapons are scattered around the island, so loot as you go and let rockets, flame emitters and explosive barrels do the heavy lifting.

Each Eventide stronghold is a standard Bokoblin and Moblin camp.

Step 3: Report Back

Return to Sesami after the third camp falls. He marks a new spot: the pirates have moved into a cave on the far side of the island.

Step 4: Glide Into Eventide Island Cave

The cave opening is in the cliff around the back of the island’s east end. The easy entry is from above: climb high, jump off the south side of the cliff and glide straight into the opening. Inside, a huge monster pirate ship with a horned skull on its bow is moored in the water.

Step 5: Defeat the Pirate Crew

Clear every monster on the ship. When the last pirate drops, the bars blocking the shrine entrance open up.

Step 6: Build the Plank Bridge

Spikes guard the approach to the shrine, so you need a bridge. Head to the front of the ship (below the crow’s nest), grab the loose wooden planks with Ultrahand, fuse two of them end to end, and lay the bridge from the ship to the shrine ledge.

Two planks fused with Ultrahand are all the bridge you need to reach the shrine.

Think the plank bridge is a complicated engineering test? It is two planks and one fuse. The game is practically handing you a participation trophy.

Step 7: Loot, Then Enter the Shrine

Open the two chests near the shrine entrance, then step inside. Open the final chest before you touch the altar, then claim your Light of Blessing. Its Depths counterpart is the Ni-iraram Lightroot, the shrine’s name spelled backwards. Go back to Sesami afterwards to close the quest and collect your reward.

The Light of Blessing is the real prize. Four of them buy a Heart Container or a Stamina Vessel at any Goddess Statue. The gems and the Silver Rupee sell nicely, and the Saber Horn is a strong fuse material for early and mid-game weapons.

Pro Tips for Eventide Island

  • Wear the Bokoblin Mask: Bokoblins will not attack you on sight while you wear it, which makes scouting the camps and the ship much easier. It comes from Koltin’s Bubbul Gem trades.
  • Do not skip steps: forcing your way into the cave before the quest tells you to can leave things in an awkward state. Let Sesami send you there.
  • Carry spare materials: if your first bridge placement slips into the water, you want a retry without swimming back around.

Hot take: if you are still skipping side quests to chase shrine icons, we need to talk. Sesami’s pirate problem is the only key to this shrine, and it pays out a Lynel horn on top.

New to the sequel or wondering how it compares? Our Tears of the Kingdom hub collects the essentials, the TOTK Switch 2 Edition review covers the upgraded version, and BOTW or TOTK: which to play first settles the order question. If you remember Eventide from the first game, the nearby Lurelin Village is still your closest mainland stop.

Marari-in Shrine FAQ

Where is Marari-in Shrine in Tears of the Kingdom?

It is at the back of Eventide Island Cave on Eventide Island, in the Necluda Sea off Hyrule’s southeast coast. You reach it through the cave after clearing the pirate ship.

How do you unlock Marari-in Shrine?

Complete the first part of Seeking the Pirate Hideout: clear the three strongholds for Sesami, then defeat the pirates on the ship in Eventide Island Cave. That opens the barred entrance.

Does Marari-in Shrine have a puzzle?

No. It is a Rauru’s Blessing shrine. The only obstacle is building a short plank bridge from the pirate ship to the shrine.

What is in the Marari-in Shrine chests?

A Topaz and a Silver Rupee in the two chests outside, and a Ruby in the chest inside the shrine.

What does Sesami give you for Seeking the Pirate Hideout?

A Blue-Maned Lynel Saber Horn, handed over when you report back after clearing the pirates.

The Math: three camps, one ship, one bridge, three chests, one blessing and a Lynel horn. That is a great return for a single island trip. Spoiler: it’s not even close to the worst shrine in Necluda.
