Kyononis Shrine is a Combat Training shrine, which means no puzzle at all: just you, a Training Construct and four moves you need to land. It’s also one of the first shrines most players reach once they drop down to Lookout Landing.
Here’s how to find it, every move it asks for (with the buttons), where the chest is and how the skills carry over to real fights.

Kyononis Shrine Location
Kyononis sits in the middle of the Hyrule Castle Town Ruins, slightly north of Lookout Landing. Head out of the fort, walk north toward the castle and you’ll find it in the back right corner of the ruins.
- Region: Central Hyrule, on the surface.
- Coordinates: Around -0205, 0451, 0021 (guides differ by a few units).
- Nearest Skyview Tower: Lookout Landing Skyview Tower, just to the south.
- Trial: Combat Training.
- Difficulty: Easy. On-screen prompts walk you through every step.
(Pro tip: grab it on your first trip to Lookout Landing. It’s a short walk, and the moves it teaches make every early fight easier.)
What to Bring
- A one-handed weapon: Anything works. You need a sword or club for the charged attack.
- A shield: Required for the Perfect Guard lesson. Equip it before you go in.
- Nothing else: No arrows, food or Zonai devices needed.
Kyononis Shrine Walkthrough: Combat Training Solution
Walk into the main room and approach the Training Construct. It activates and the lessons start. The shrine only moves on once you land each move, so take your time.
Lesson 1: Side Hop and Flurry Rush
- Lock on: Hold ZL to target the Construct.
- Hop: As it swings, push the stick left or right and press X to side hop.
- Punish: Time it right and everything slows down. Press Y repeatedly for a Flurry Rush.
Lesson 2: Backflip and Flurry Rush
- Same idea, backward: While locked on, pull the stick back and press X right before the Construct’s attack lands.
- Punish again: A perfect backflip also triggers slow motion and another Flurry Rush.

Lesson 3: Perfect Guard
- Shield up: Hold ZL so your shield is raised.
- Parry: Press A just as the Construct’s weapon reaches you. A good Perfect Guard knocks the strike back and breaks its stance.
Lesson 4: Charged Attack
- Charge: While its stance is broken, hold Y to charge your weapon.
- Release: Let go to unleash the charged attack. That finishes the Construct.
Nailed it? Grab what the Construct leaves behind, then open the chest behind where it stood before you head to the altar.
The Moves at a Glance
| Lesson | Input | Payoff |
|---|---|---|
| Side Hop | Hold ZL, stick left or right, X | Flurry Rush (mash Y) |
| Backflip | Hold ZL, stick back, X | Flurry Rush (mash Y) |
| Perfect Guard | Hold ZL, press A on impact | Breaks the enemy’s stance |
| Charged Attack | Hold Y, release | Finishes the Construct |
If you’ve remapped your buttons, follow the on-screen prompts instead.
Kyononis Shrine Rewards
- Zonaite Sword: In the chest behind the Construct. Open it before you finish the shrine.
- Light of Blessing: At the altar. Trade four at a Goddess Statue for a Heart Container or a Stamina Vessel.
- Travel point: A handy warp right next to Lookout Landing and the castle ruins. Its Depths counterpart is the Sinonoyk Lightroot, the shrine’s name spelled backwards.

Why Kyononis Is Worth Doing Early
Combat Training shrines are easy Lights of Blessing, but the real reward is the habit. Most players who struggle in Tears of the Kingdom fights are trading hits and burning through weapons. Flurry Rush flips that: one perfect dodge buys you a free string of attacks with zero risk.
Kyononis is also close to everything you do early on. Lookout Landing is your base for the opening quests, the castle ruins are right there, and the Skyview Tower next door opens up the map for Central Hyrule. Oh, and the Zonaite Sword from the chest is a decent upgrade over the sticks and tree branches you’ll be swinging at that point.
Pro Tips for Real Fights
- Wait for the swing: Every one of these moves is about timing. Dodging early does nothing, so watch the weapon, not the enemy’s body.
- Side hop vs backflip: Side hop for horizontal swings, backflip for overhead and thrusting attacks. Your call when it’s unclear, but backflip is the safer default against lunges.
- Parry projectiles: A Perfect Guard also bounces back things like Octorok rocks, so the timing you learn here pays off at range too.
- Practice on Bokoblins: They telegraph their swings clearly, so they’re great for drilling the timing.
- Bigger targets later: Lynels punish sloppy dodges, and Flurry Rush is how you get damage in. (Pro tip: the same backflip timing works against their charging attacks.)
