Okay, so you’ve wandered into Eldin, you’ve heard whispers about a hidden shrine near Gorko Lake, and you can’t find a thing… honestly, that’s because it isn’t there yet. Kayra Mah Shrine only shows up once you help out a very tired Goron.

Let’s walk through this together. The shrine itself is a relaxed jog uphill, and the quest that unlocks it is the only part that takes a little patience. It’s worth the effort, I promise.

Where to Find Kayra Mah Shrine

Kayra Mah is one of the 42 hidden shrines in Breath of the Wild, so you can’t just stroll up and open the door. You’ll need to finish a shrine quest first, and that quest starts in Goron City.

Here’s the chill version of what you need to know:

  • The Location: Gorko Tunnel in the southern part of the Eldin Region, just south of Gorko Lake.
  • The Unlock: You have to complete the shrine quest A Brother’s Roast before the shrine appears.
  • The Quest Giver: Bladon, who you’ll find in a hut in the southwest part of Goron City, near the Protein Palace.
  • The Trial: The shrine’s challenge is called Greedy Hill, and it’s basically a run up a hill full of rolling hazards.
  • No Stress: Nothing here is a brain-bender. It’s all about timing, patience, and a steady hand with that roast.

Step-by-Step Walkthrough

We’ll start with the quest, since that’s what reveals the shrine. Take your time with this part. If you mess up, you can just grab another roast and try again.

  • Step 1: Head to the southwest side of Goron City and find Bladon’s hut near the Protein Palace. He’s worried about his brother, and he’ll tell you the story.
  • Step 2: Travel to Gorko Tunnel and head inside. You’ll meet Gonguron, who is weak from exhaustion.
  • Step 3: Bladon shows up and asks you to bring him a Rock Roast. That’s your mission.
  • Step 4: Head downhill from the cave entrance. You’ll run into Black Moblins and Fire Chus on the way, but don’t stop to fight them unless you absolutely have to. They’ll just regenerate anyway.
  • Step 5: At the bottom of the hill, you’ll find several roasts resting on a ledge near some lava. Grab one and start back up.

Now comes the part that trips people up. Those enemies you skipped past will be back, and they’re waiting for you.

  • Step 6: Set the roast down somewhere safe near the base of the hill. Then climb up and clear out the enemies. There are roughly three Moblins and two Fire Chus.
  • Step 7: Take out every one of them. If anything bumps you or the roast, it rolls back to the bottom and you’ll have to start the climb over with a fresh roast.
  • Step 8: Once the coast is clear, pick up the roast and carry it uphill. The trail mostly keeps to the left of the slope, so veer that way.
  • Step 9: Near the top, a huge boulder drops and rolls toward you. Stick to the left wall and it should roll harmlessly past.
  • Step 10: Reach the cave entrance with your roast and the quest is complete. The shrine is now available.

Head back into the tunnel and approach the brothers for a short scene. After it plays out, Kayra Mah Shrine appears. Activate the pedestal by the door and you’ll get a fast travel point, which also wraps up the shrine quest.

Okay, this next part is SO much more relaxed than the roast run. Step inside and you’ll see Greedy Hill in front of you.

  • Step 11: Your goal is simply to reach the top of the incline. Along the way you’ll dodge big metal boulders and faster spiky balls rolling down at you.
  • Step 12: Keep an eye out for falling Rupees. You might want to risk a little safety to snag some, because they add up.
  • Step 13: Take the path on the right as you climb. This lets you slip into an alcove in the wall that holds a chest with a ruby inside.
  • Step 14: At the top, turn around. You’ll see another chest off to your right, within paragliding distance. Glide over and open it.
  • Step 15: Make your way back up and speak to the Kayra Mah Monk to receive your Spirit Orb.

Rewards and Benefits

The Payoff: you get a nice little haul for what is honestly an easy shrine.

  • Spirit Orb: Handed over by the Kayra Mah Monk once you finish the trial.
  • Ruby: Tucked inside the alcove chest along the right-hand path up the hill.
  • Five Bomb Arrows: Waiting in the chest you can paraglide to from the top of the hill.
  • Fast Travel Point: Activating the pedestal outside the shrine door gives you a handy new warp spot in Eldin.
  • Quest Complete: You’ll also close out A Brother’s Roast, which is always satisfying to cross off.

Pro Tips

  • Hug the Left: On the roast climb, the left side is your friend. The same goes for the shrine hill, where staying along the left edge means you only dodge a few balls near the metal fencing. (Pro tip: if you want the ruby chest, switch to the right path on your way up.)
  • Use Magnesis: The balls and boulders are metal, so Magnesis can grab them. This is a lifesaver when something is flying straight at you and you have nowhere to dodge.
  • Try Stasis: Freezing a hazard in place works too, and it gives you a safe window to run past. (Pro tip: don’t panic if you get knocked back. You can just keep climbing.)
  • Park the Roast Smartly: Put it down at the base of the hill, away from the enemies’ paths, before you clear them out. Trust me on this, it saves a lot of frustration.
  • Don’t Fight on the Way Down: The Moblins and Fire Chus regenerate, so save your energy for when you’re heading back up.
  • Take Your Time: Nothing here is on a timer. Slow and steady gets the roast home.

Why This Shrine Is Worth Your Time

Honestly, Kayra Mah is a great reminder that Breath of the Wild loves rewarding curiosity. A simple favor for a Goron turns into a hidden shrine, a handful of treasure, and a new fast travel spot.

It’s also a gentle one, which makes it perfect if you’re still finding your footing in Eldin. You’ve got this.

So, did you go for the ruby alcove on the right, or stick to the left wall and play it safe? Tell us how your roast run went in the comments, and share any clever Magnesis or Stasis tricks you found!
