Staring at a pool of floating spheres and wondering how you’re supposed to get one into that fenced-off receptacle? You’re not alone. The Daka Tuss Shrine stumps plenty of newcomers because the answer is a giant metal bowl sitting underwater.

Here’s exactly what to do, step by step, plus how to grab the hidden Silver Longsword along the way.

Where to Find Daka Tuss Shrine

This shrine sits in the Lanayru region, in the southwestern marshy area past the Lanayru Tower. It’s on a small island that isn’t exactly empty, so arrive ready for a fight.

  • Region: Lanayru, in the southwestern marshland.
  • Landmark: Head past Lanayru Tower to reach Shrine island.
  • Threats: Several Lizalfos patrol the island, and a Guardian sometimes shows up too.
  • Trial Name: Sunken Scoop.
  • Trial Name: Sunken Scoop.
  • Puzzle Type: Physics puzzle using spheres, a receptacle, and a pressure switch.
  • Required Rune: Magnesis, which lets you grab and move metal objects.
  • Hidden Loot: A chest containing a Silver Longsword.

Quick beginner note: Magnesis is one of the Sheikah Slate runes you pick up early in the game. If you haven’t used it much yet, this shrine is a friendly place to practice.

Lore-wise, every shrine is a Sheikah-built trial, and the monk waiting at the end rewards you for proving yourself. Daka Tuss is one of the more memorable names in Lanayru, and some players say it sounds like a comedy rimshot. Say it out loud and you’ll hear it.

Daka Tuss Shrine Walkthrough and Solution

The shrine has two puzzle rooms, and the same metal bowl solves both. Think of it as a scoop you carry from room to room.

Room One: Scoop the Sphere

  • Step 1: Look over the first room. You’ll see a pool with three floating spheres and a receptacle boxed in at the far left corner.
  • Step 2: Spot the large metal bowl underwater. Equip Magnesis and lift the bowl slowly and gently.
  • Step 3: Maneuver the bowl under one of the floating spheres and raise it so the sphere sits inside.
  • Step 4: Swing the bowl left over the boxed-in receptacle and tilt it until the sphere drops in. This unlocks the next area.

(Pro tip: Move the bowl in small, smooth motions. Fast swings will fling the sphere right out.)

If you’re new to this, remember that Magnesis follows your camera. Where you look is where the object goes, so aim carefully before you push or pull.

Room Two: The Roof and the Switch

Take the bowl with you into the next room. This room has three more spheres, another corner receptacle, and a large switch under the water.

  • Step 5: Use Magnesis to scoop up another sphere with the bowl, just like before.
  • Step 6: Notice that the receptacle’s box now has a roof. Only the underwater switch will open it.
  • Step 7: Brush the bowl gently against the wall to knock the sphere out onto the roof of the box.
  • Step 8: Bring the bowl back into the water and set it down on the large pressure switch on the pool floor.

The weight of the bowl opens the roof, and the sphere on top falls into the receptacle. The water then drains, and the way forward opens.

Lore-wise, this is classic Sheikah design. The puzzle teaches you to treat metal objects as tools rather than obstacles, which is the core idea behind Magnesis.

Before You Leave: The Silver Longsword

  • Step 9: Head back to the first room. The pool has drained, and a door at the bottom is now open.
  • Step 10: Follow the passage to a small room and open the chest to claim a Silver Longsword.
  • Step 11: Return through the shrine and follow the path to Monk Daka Tuss, who hands over your Spirit Orb.

Don’t skip the chest. It’s easy to walk straight to the monk and miss it entirely.

Rewards and Benefits

  • Spirit Orb: Awarded by Monk Daka Tuss. Collect enough of them and you can trade them at a Goddess Statue for extra hearts or stamina.
  • Silver Longsword: A solid two-handed weapon with an attack power of 22, according to one guide. That makes it a real upgrade over the weapons you likely have this early.
  • Rune Practice: You get a safe, low-pressure place to sharpen your Magnesis control.

Quick beginner note: A longsword hits harder than a one-handed blade but swings slower. Save it for tougher enemies, like the Lizalfos outside.

Pro Tips

  • Go Slow: Gentle movements keep spheres inside the bowl. If one rolls out, simply scoop another from the pool.
  • Clear the Island First: Take out the Lizalfos before you enter so nothing interrupts you mid-puzzle. (Pro tip: Stock up on food and a few spare weapons before you cross.)
  • Watch for the Guardian: It doesn’t always appear, but if it does, keep your distance and use cover.
  • Bring the Bowl: Don’t leave it behind in room one. You need it for the switch in room two.
  • Experiment: Breath of the Wild lets you solve puzzles in more than one way. If the standard solution feels awkward, try your own approach.

Why This Shrine Matters

Daka Tuss is a great early lesson in how Breath of the Wild thinks. Instead of a single scripted answer, you get tools and a physics-based problem, and the game trusts you to figure it out.

Once you’ve scooped your first sphere, Magnesis stops feeling like a gimmick and starts feeling like a real skill. You’ll lean on that confidence in later shrines and in the wild.

So, how did it go? Did you solve it the scoop-and-switch way, or find a sneakier route? Share your approach in the comments and help the next explorer out.
