Heading into the far northeast of Hyrule? The Akkala Tower region hides eight shrines, and four of them stay buried until you finish a Shrine Quest. Here’s the full breakdown: where every shrine sits, what trial waits inside, what the chest gives you, and how to unlock the four hidden ones.
Pack strong weapons and a stack of arrows. Akkala is late-game territory, with Guardians around the Citadel Ruins and a Lynel roaming the Akkala Wilds.

Kick off by climbing Akkala Tower in the Citadel Ruins so the map fills in. Every shrine you activate becomes a fast travel point, which matters a lot in a region this spread out.

The Four Open Shrines
Ze Kasho Shrine
Head to South Akkala Stable and look up: the shrine sits on the ridge above it. Inside, you tilt a spiked platform with motion controls, then time your way through a laser room by hitting a Shock Switch to flip blocking panels.
- Chest: Silverscale Spear, on a high platform right of the exit. Hit the Shock Switch again with an arrow, ride the rotating platform up, then glide over.
Dah Hesho Shrine
Grab this one on the cliff south of Tarrey Town, overlooking Lake Akkala. It’s A Minor Test of Strength, so expect a Guardian Scout II with an Ancient Battle Axe. Stone pillars in the arena break if you bomb them or the Scout spins into them.
- Chest: Giant Ancient Core, behind the portcullis.
Katosa Aug Shrine
This one sits right across from East Akkala Stable. Use the motion control hammer to smack an Ancient Orb into the slot on the far side, which starts a moving platform to the monk. (Pro tip: the chest room behind the monk repeats the trick, but you have to hit the orb at an angle.)
- Chest: Great Frostblade.
Ke’nai Shakah Shrine
Head to the northern part of Ulria Grotto. Your best bet is to glide into the grotto from the cliffs above. Inside is A Modest Test of Strength against a Guardian Scout III carrying an Ancient Battle Axe+ and a Guardian Sword+.
- Chest: Sapphire.
The Four Hidden Shrines (Shrine Quests)
Ritaag Zumo Shrine: Into the Vortex
Rist Peninsula is the giant sand spiral on the Akkala coast. Read the Stone Tablet in the ruins near its base to start the quest, then carry the nearby Ancient Orb along the spiral to the pedestal at the center. Drop it in the slot and the shrine rises out of the ground.

- Trial: Blessing, so it’s a free Spirit Orb.
- Chest: Giant Ancient Core.
Tu Ka’loh Shrine: Trial of the Labyrinth
Lomei Labyrinth Island sits in the northern Akkala Sea. Step onto the island and a voice promises a blessing if you beat the maze, which starts the quest. Work through the labyrinth and a spiral path leads up to the shrine at the top.
- Trial: Blessing.
- Chest: Barbarian Helm, one piece of the Barbarian armor set.
Zuna Kai Shrine: The Skull’s Eye
Talk to Jerrin at the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab and she points you to Skull Lake’s left eye. Seen on the map, that’s the eastern island. The shrine sits on top of a tall spire there, so bring stamina food and avoid rainy weather for the climb (think Endura Carrots or a stamina elixir).
- Trial: Blessing.
- Chest: Flameblade.
Tutsuwa Nima Shrine: The Spring of Power
Talk to Nobo at East Akkala Stable and ask about the area. She tells you a sacred article must be offered at the Spring of Power. At the spring, the goddess statue asks for a scale from Dinraal, the fire dragon. Shoot Dinraal to knock one loose, then drop the scale in the spring to open the shrine.
- Trial: A Major Test of Strength against a Guardian Scout IV. The floor is covered in a thin layer of water, so Cryonis and shock weapons both have uses here.
- Chest: Flamespear.
Rewards and Smart Routing
All eight shrines give a Spirit Orb, and four orbs buy a Heart Container or a Stamina Vessel at any Goddess Statue. That’s two full upgrades from Akkala alone, you’re winning!
- Stable loop: Ze Kasho (South Akkala Stable) and Katosa Aug (East Akkala Stable) are next to stables, and Nobo at East Akkala Stable starts the Spring of Power quest.
- Tech Lab stop: Jerrin’s quest for Zuna Kai starts at the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab, so pair it with Ke’nai Shakah in Ulria Grotto.
- Coast run: do Rist Peninsula and Lomei Labyrinth Island back to back.
- Korok bonus: plenty of seeds sit along these routes. Check out our Akkala Korok seeds guide before you set off.
Oh, and the stamina food you need for Zuna Kai’s spire is easy to make. Our BOTW recipe guide has the full list, and the Akkala region guide covers Tarrey Town, the Tech Lab and everything else in the area.
