So here’s the deal: Hogwarts Legacy has quietly changed a lot since launch. Photo Mode, a talent reset, official PC mods and handheld PC support all arrived in patches, the game launched on Switch 2, and a lot of players coming back in late 2026 have no idea half of it exists.

This is the chill, plain-English version of the official patch notes: what each major update added, what it means for you, and where the game stands right now.

Where Hogwarts Legacy Stands Now

The most recent official patch is the PC hotfix from 3 December 2025 (build 1613387 on Steam and Epic, 1614419 on the Microsoft Store), which fixed favorited or uploaded mods not showing past 20. Since then, Warner Bros. Games has focused on sales and events rather than new gameplay patches. A DLSS 5 graphics update for PC is scheduled for 5 November 2026, so check the official patch notes after that date. The latest freebie was the Astronomer’s Hat, given away to all players for Back to Hogwarts 2026. The giveaway ended on 30 September 2026.

The Summer 2024 Update: Photo Mode and Talent Resets

This is the big one for console players, and I’m not gonna lie, it changed how I play.

  • Photo Mode: capture shots of your adventure and your cosmetics. It unlocks once you finish the story mission that gives you access to the Field Guide, so if you can’t find it early on, that is why.
  • Talent point reset: rebuild your witch or wizard without starting a new save. Huge news for anyone who sank points into talents they never use.
  • Former exclusives for everyone: the PlayStation-only Haunted Shop mission came to all platforms, along with the Onyx Hippogriff mount, the Felix Felicis potion and the Shopkeeper cosmetic set.
  • New cosmetics: the Lavender Borealis broom, Azkaban-themed gear and Circular Taped Spectacles.
  • Fixes: updated Japanese and Spanish voice-over retakes and a long list of bug fixes.

The 2025 PC Updates: Ray Tracing and Mods

January 2025: Ray Tracing, DLSS 4 and Mods

The January patch split ray tracing into separate quality settings per feature (except ambient occlusion), added ray-traced reflections on water including the Black Lake, and added DLSS 4, Ray Reconstruction and Multi Frame Generation for RTX 50 series cards.

Here’s Where It Gets Wild: the same patch added official mod browsing and installation inside the PC game, and released the game’s editor to modders as the Creator Kit.

June 2025: Creator Kit Upgrades

The 10 June 2025 patch (game build 1420267) changed default display options so Low Latency settings no longer apply to older, unsupported graphics cards. The Creator Kit side (build 1404437) added a lot for modders:

  • New templates: Broom, Costume and Gameplay mod templates.
  • Spell support: adding and modifying Spell and Spell Talent videos, plus spell minigames.
  • Custom loot: set specific loot in containers instead of random spawns.
  • Localization: the text editor supports multiple languages, including the default one.
  • Database tool: create new SQL tables from the Database Text Entry tool.
  • Workflow: a reset mod link button, new Create Mod, Create Template and Select Active Mod dropdowns, and a dedicated mod section in the toolbar.

October 2025: Handheld Support

Build 1569535 added full support for the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X, fixed incorrect graphics profiles on some handhelds, improved stability on AMD systems and added Intel XeSS and XeFG improvements for lower-end PCs. Mod menus got a stack of fixes too.

Switch 2: Two Post-Launch Patches

Hogwarts Legacy arrived on Nintendo Switch 2 in June 2025. The 22 July 2025 patch (build 1451770) fixed persistent crashes, localization, Mouse Mode, lighting and performance issues, including a bug that blocked Revelio during Welcome to Hogsmeade. A hotfix followed on 7 August 2025.

What to Do After Updating

  1. Check Photo Mode: finish the Field Guide mission if you haven’t, then try it out.
  2. Plan your respec: decide what you want your build to do before you reset talents.
  3. PC players: look at the new ray tracing options and, if you have an older card, your Low Latency setting.
  4. Curious about mods? Browse the in-game mod menu on PC; official mods like cosmetic packs are a gentle way in.
