Hogwarts Castle is the kind of place where every corridor has a story and every dusty corner might hide a chest. If you have ever wondered whether you are missing something in there, you probably are, and that’s okay.

There’s no wrong way to approach this. This guide gives you a calm checklist for the castle: how the castle map is laid out, which side quests to pick up, what collectibles to sweep wing by wing, and when the three Hogwarts Secrets open up.

What the Castle Holds

Hogwarts has its own map, separate from Hogsmeade and the Highlands, and it is split into wings: the Astronomy Wing, the Bell Tower Wing, the Grand Staircase, the Great Hall, the Library Annex and the South Wing, plus Floo Flames all over to help you hop between them.

  • Field Guide Pages: the castle is dense with them. Revelio, Accio, Lumos and Levioso puzzles are everywhere.
  • Collection Chests: tracked chests with gear appearances, wand handles and conjuration recipes, often tucked behind locked doors.
  • Demiguise Statues: a share of the game’s 33 statues are inside the castle. You can see them by day, but the moons can only be collected at night. Around 10 of them sit inside the castle.
  • Hogwarts Secrets: three bigger puzzles, covered below, that count toward full Collection completion.
  • Locked doors: many rooms need a higher level of Alohomora, so the castle keeps opening up as you play.

For the record, the game as a whole has 236 Field Guide Pages and 168 Collection Chests, and a big chunk of both sit inside these walls.

Castle Side Quests Worth Doing

Open your quest log and check the Side, Assignments and Relationships tabs whenever you are back at school. A few castle favorites:

  • The Man Behind the Moons: Gladwin Moon’s quest. Demiguise collecting itself starts in the main quest The Caretaker’s Lunar Lament, which also teaches Alohomora I. This side quest is Gladwin’s follow-up, and he is also the one who trades your moons for Alohomora II (9 more moons) and III (13 more). Don’t skip this one.
  • Crossed Wands: the dueling club rounds. Great practice for combat early on.
  • Like a Moth to a Frame: teaches you how the moth painting puzzles work.
  • A Tale of Rowland Oakes and The Hall of Herodiana: longer threads worth following to the end. The Hall of Herodiana stays in the castle, while Rowland Oakes takes you out into the Highlands.
  • Professor assignments: each one teaches a new spell, and several of those spells open more castle secrets.

Take Your Time: pair quests with collectible sweeps in the same wing. You’ll save a lot of backtracking.

When the Three Hogwarts Secrets Open Up

Three bigger puzzles count toward full Collection completion, and each needs a spell or story step, so they open at different points of your run. The full step by step solutions are in our Hogwarts Secrets solutions guide; here is just what to have ready before you go.

Tips for a Calm Castle Run

  • Light the Floo Flames early: the castle is a maze, and fast travel saves you a lot of stairs.
  • Learn the chimes: a faint chime means a Revelio page nearby. Cast it often in new rooms.
  • Come back at night: Demiguise moons can only be collected after dark. Use the wait option on the map.
  • Revisit after new spells: doors and puzzles you could not open early become easy later.
  • Know your common room: only your own house’s common room is open to you, so its collectibles and quests depend on your house.

The Key of Admittance and the Headmaster’s hidden room are a nice reminder that Hogwarts always keeps a few doors closed until you are ready. The castle grows with you, just like it did for every student in the books.

Hogwarts Castle FAQ

How many Hogwarts Secrets are there?

Three: the Viaduct Bridge, the Clock Tower and the Key of Admittance door near the Headmaster’s Office. Our Hogwarts Secrets solutions guide walks through each one.

Where is the Key of Admittance?

In a secret room above the Headmaster’s Office, reached with Alohomora level 3 after The Polyjuice Plot.

Can I enter other houses’ common rooms?

No. Only your own house’s common room is open to you.

Checklist: side quests first, then a wing by wing collectible sweep, then the three secrets as your spells allow. It’s a marathon, not a sprint, and the castle is the nicest place in the game to run it.

Whether he's diving for Managed Democracy in Helldivers 2, scavenging the dunes of Arrakis in Dune: Awakening, or getting chased by something with too many teeth in Subnautica 2, Vincenzo brings a survivor's eye for detail to everything he writes. He's also a longtime World of Warcraft raider who somehow still finds time to explore every new planet, ocean, and desert gaming throws at him. When he's not narrowly escaping death in a procedurally generated nightmare, Vincenzo is digging through patch notes, testing builds, and figuring out the fastest way to not die so you don't have to learn the hard way.
