Hogwarts Legacy’s story ends with one question from Professor Fig, one dragon fight and one goodbye. Then the credits roll, and a lot of players are left wondering what their choice actually changed, and whether there is more to see.

Spoiler warning: everything below spoils the finale. Take it at your own pace. This guide covers how The Final Repository plays out, both endings, what happens to Fig, and the post game True Ending most players miss.

The Ending at a Glance

There is no hidden morality meter. Your earlier choices, your house and even learning the Unforgivable Curses do not decide which ending you get. Only your answer to Fig does.

How The Final Repository Plays Out

The Setup: once you have completed all four Keeper Trials and the rest of the main story leading up to it, the Keepers reveal the way to the last repository, deep beneath Hogwarts.

  1. Fight through Ranrok’s Loyalists. Goblins and trolls fill the caverns. Stock up on potions before you start, because the fights come back to back.
  2. The professors arrive. When the odds turn, the Hogwarts staff join in and hold the line so you and Fig can push on.
  3. Reach the repository with Fig. He asks what you intend to do with the ancient magic. This is the choice.
  4. Ranrok arrives. He breaks into the repository, absorbs its power and transforms into a dragon.
  5. Defeat Ranrok. The fight is the same for both endings: match the spell colors to his orbs and keep moving.

One more thing before you move on: make a manual save right before you answer Fig. That way you can see both endings without replaying the whole mission.

The Choice: Good vs Evil Ending

Good Ending: Keep It Contained

Answer “I intend to keep it contained here,” then promise to keep the secret forever. After Ranrok falls, Fig helps you seal the repository. He was badly hurt during Ranrok’s transformation, and he dies after his final words, as you hand him his late wife Miriam’s wand.

Evil Ending: Open It

Answer “I intend to open it,” then insist the power should not be kept from the world. Fig gives you a chance to back down first. If you do not, Fig is crushed by falling rubble during the transformation, and once Ranrok falls you absorb the repository’s ancient magic yourself instead of sealing it away, your eyes briefly glowing red as it takes hold.

Lore Connection: the choice mirrors Isidora Morganach, whose story runs through every Keeper Trial. She believed she could use ancient magic to take away other people’s pain, it went terribly wrong, and the Keepers spent their lives making sure nobody repeated her mistake. The good ending is you listening to them; the evil ending is you deciding you know better.

Does Fig Die in Both Endings?

Yes. Fig dies whichever answer you give, and no side quest or earlier choice can save him. Back at Hogwarts, the seasons turn to spring and the staff hold a ceremony for him in the Great Hall.

Afterward, you get one last scene with either Sebastian Sallow or Ominis Gaunt. Which one depends on Sebastian’s questline: if you spared him in In the Shadow of Fate, or never finished it, Sebastian comes to talk to you. If you turned him in, Ominis does.

Missable! If you never finished Sebastian’s questline before the finale, you can still do it after the credits.

The True Ending (Post Game)

Here’s the part a lot of players skip. After either ending, the game opens a post game quest called Weasley’s Watchful Eye, which leads into the O.W.L. exams and the end of the school year.

Checklist: the only hard requirements are Weasley’s Watchful Eye and reaching level 34, which The House Cup quest needs before it unlocks. Everything else below is optional, but worth doing first because you can still play after the ceremony anyway:

  • Remaining side quests and relationship quests for Natsai, Poppy and Sebastian.
  • Collections and puzzles such as Merlin Trials and Demiguise Statues.
  • Level 34 or higher (required). Side quests and collection hunting are the fastest way to get there.

Then head to the Great Hall for the House Cup ceremony and a closing montage of your school year. It is the same scene whichever ending you chose, and your own house always wins the cup, and it is the real finale of the game. Don’t skip this one.

Which Ending Should You Pick?

There’s no wrong way to approach this. The ending does not lock you out of anything, the open world stays the same, and the post game content is identical. Pick the answer that fits the witch or wizard you have been playing, then reload your save if you want to see the other one.

Take Your Time: if you still have side content left, finish it after the credits. The world stays fully open, and Weasley’s Watchful Eye waits until you are ready. The Hogwarts Legacy interactive map helps you track down what is left.

Hogwarts Legacy Ending FAQ

How many endings does Hogwarts Legacy have?

Two story endings (good and evil) decided by one dialogue choice, plus a post game True Ending that is the same for everyone.

How do you get the good ending?

Tell Professor Fig “I intend to keep it contained here” in The Final Repository, then promise to keep the secret.

Can you save Professor Fig?

No. Fig dies in both endings, and no choice or side quest changes that.

What do you need for the True Ending?

Finish either ending, complete Weasley’s Watchful Eye and reach level 34 so The House Cup quest unlocks. Then attend the ceremony in the Great Hall. Full completion is not required, and your own house always wins.

Will there be a Hogwarts Legacy 2?

A sequel is in development at Warner Bros. Games. Our Hogwarts Legacy 2 roundup has everything confirmed so far.

The ending is one choice, but the goodbye to Fig and the year end ceremony make it worth slowing down for. Hogwarts Legacy still has a busy community years after launch, as the live Hogwarts Legacy player count shows, and if you are on the fence about a second run, our Hogwarts Legacy in 2026 verdict might tip you over.
