Quick heads up: light story spoilers ahead. If you’ve been tracking every “ten points to Gryffindor” like it’s a leaderboard… I’m begging you to relax.

Winning the House Cup in Hogwarts Legacy has nothing to do with point grinding. It’s the final quest of the game, it’s locked behind one big level requirement, and once you hit it, your House takes the trophy. Let’s get into it.

How the House Cup Actually Works

Here’s the play: The House Cup is the last main quest, the closing chapter that plays after the final story mission. There is no hidden points counter and nothing you do in class changes who wins.

  • No point tracker: the professors’ point awards during quests are flavor. Stop looking for a scoreboard.
  • Your House wins: whatever House you picked at the start, the ceremony ends with it lifting the cup.
  • The real gate: level 34. That’s the only part that takes work.

Step by Step: How to Win the House Cup

Do this, then this, then collect your trophy.

  1. Finish the main story. Clear The Final Repository. That’s the final mission and the big boss fight.
  2. Start Weasley’s Watchful Eye. It needs level 24, which you’ll almost certainly have by the end of the story. Head to the Transfiguration Classroom and talk to Professor Weasley.
  3. Check your level. Most players finish the story somewhere around level 25. You need 34.
  4. Close the gap. Side quests, puzzles and collectibles are how you get there (more on that below).
  5. Go to the Great Hall. Once you’re level 34, the quest marker sends you there. Fast travel to Hogwarts Castle, then step into the glowing quest circle just outside the Great Hall doors to start the cutscene.
  6. Watch the ceremony. The end of year feast plays out, Professor Weasley steps in at the last moment to award you 100 extra points, and your House takes the cup. GG.

Stop Doing This: don’t wander the castle hunting for a ceremony trigger before you’re level 34. Nothing happens. Go level up.

How to Reach Level 34 Fast

Nine levels is a real chunk, so be efficient about it. Here’s where the XP lives:

  • Side quests: the biggest single XP chunks after the story. Clear every one on your map.
  • Challenges menu: combat, exploration and collection challenges pay XP when you claim the rewards. People forget to claim them. Open the menu and collect.
  • Field Guide Pages: every page is quick XP, and they’re everywhere in Hogwarts, Hogsmeade and the Highlands.
  • Puzzles and exploration: Merlin Trials, Treasure Vaults, Demiguise Statues, Astronomy Tables and Balloon pops all add up.
  • Enemy camps: bandit and Ashwinder camps give solid XP and gear on the side.
  • Dueling Feats: finishing feats in combat feeds your combat challenges.

Need a route? The Hogwarts Legacy interactive map makes it easy to sweep a region at a time and grab everything in one pass. No cap, it’s the fastest way to burn through the gap.

Do this. Thank me later: make a manual save before you walk into the Great Hall. You can keep playing after, but having that save means you can come back to the moment whenever you want.

Should You Rush It or Finish Side Content First?

Here’s the honest answer: you can’t really rush it. The level 34 gate means you’ll be doing a big chunk of side content no matter what. So lean into it.

  • Finish companion questlines: Sebastian, Natsai and Poppy each have their own arcs, and they’re some of the best writing in the game. They also pay good XP.
  • Upgrade your Room of Requirement: brewing potions and growing plants makes the late camps and duels much smoother.
  • Fill your Field Guide: you’ll be at it anyway, and it makes the ending feel earned.

Trust. Showing up to the feast at 34 with everything else wrapped up hits different.

Rewards: What You Get for the Win

  • The ending: the House Cup ceremony is the game’s final story beat, a proper send off with your friends after everything under Hogwarts.
  • House glory: your House wins the cup, full stop.
  • Freedom: afterward you’re free to chase full completion with no story left hanging.

There’s no gear or Galleon reward for this one, but it does unlock the Seeker of Knowledge trophy/achievement, and the credits roll after the ceremony. It’s pure glory and a satisfying finish.

Plenty of players are still finishing their runs. The live Hogwarts Legacy player count shows how many are online on Steam right now. And once you’ve lifted the cup, here’s everything we know about Hogwarts Legacy 2.

House Cup FAQ

What level do you need for the House Cup in Hogwarts Legacy?

Level 34. You also need to finish Weasley’s Watchful Eye, which unlocks after The Final Repository at level 24.

Can you lose the House Cup?

No. There’s no point tracker, and the ceremony always ends with your House winning.

Do house points matter in Hogwarts Legacy?

Not really. Points mentioned during classes and quests are flavor and don’t decide the winner.

What does the House Cup quest give you?

The final ending cutscene and the Seeker of Knowledge trophy/achievement. There’s no gear or Galleon reward.

Can you keep playing after the House Cup?

Yes. After the credits you’re back in the castle and can keep exploring and finishing side content. You don’t need 100% completion to trigger the ceremony, only level 34.

GG: beat the story, talk to Weasley, hit 34 and walk into the Great Hall. Your whole House cheers, and you earned every one of those levels. You’re welcome.
