The Lord of the Shore is a giant Graphorn, and he is about to ruin your afternoon. He’s fast, he hits like a runaway carriage, and half your spellbook does nothing to him. If you walk in spamming Levioso and Glacius… we need to talk.

Let’s get into it. By the end of this guide you’ll know exactly which spells work, how to stay alive and how to walk out with the best ground mount in Hogwarts Legacy.

Where to Find the Lord of the Shore

The Lord of the Shore is the boss of San Bakar’s Trial, the last of the four Keeper trials in the main story. You can’t skip him, so get comfortable with the dodge button.

  • Unlock: finish Lodgok’s Loyalty and reach level 24.
  • Start: fast travel to the Map Chamber and talk to Professor Fig.
  • The trail: take the Cragcroft Shore Floo Flame to San Bakar’s Pensieve Chamber, cast Revelio, then burn the ivy on the wall with Confringo to reveal the clue.
  • The den: follow the next marker to the far southwest of the map on the Clagmar Coast. Look for a huge whale skeleton, then head into the Graphorn’s Den. That’s where he waits.

(Pro tip: save before you walk into the den. Future you will say thanks.)

The Big Rule: Damage Spells Only

Here’s the play: the Graphorn only reacts to Damage spells, the red ones. Control and Force spells don’t do anything to him, so they’re wasted slots for this fight.

ToolWorks?Notes
Damage spells (Confringo, Diffindo, Bombarda, Incendio, Expelliarmus)YesYour whole damage plan. Put them all on one spell set.
Control spells (Levioso, Glacius, Arresto Momentum, Transformation)NoNo effect on him. Swap them out.
Force spells (Accio, Depulso, Descendo, Flipendo)NoNo effect on him either.
Ancient MagicYesFire it the moment a bar is full.
Ancient Magic ThrowYesHurl objects around the arena at him for extra burst damage.
Basic CastYesFine as filler while your spells cool down.
Wiggenweld PotionYesBring a full stack. You’ll need it.
What works against the Lord of the Shore.

Stop Doing This: trying to lift or freeze him “just to check.” It does nothing. I’m begging you.

Before the Fight: Prep Checklist

  • Spell set: one full set of Damage spells. Confringo and Bombarda for burst, Diffindo and Expelliarmus for reliable hits.
  • Ancient Magic: walk in with your meter full. More bars means more free chunks of his health.
  • Potions: a stack of Wiggenweld Potions, plus Maxima Potions for extra damage and Edurus Potions for extra defense.
  • Gear: run your highest defense pieces and upgrade them if you can. He hits hard on every difficulty.
  • Talents: any Wiggenweld or Ancient Magic talents you have unlocked pull their weight here.

How to Beat the Lord of the Shore Step by Step

  1. Lock on immediately. He closes distance fast and leaps around. Lock on keeps him on screen so you aren’t casting at air.
  2. Dodge the charge, don’t block it. His charging rushes are the big damage. Dodge roll out of the way the moment he lowers his head.
  3. Punish the recovery. After a charge or a missed swipe, chain two or three Damage spells, then get ready to move again.
  4. Brace for phase two. At half health he enrages: his hits get heavier, come out faster and he chases you harder. Stay locked on and dodge even earlier.
  5. Throw Ancient Magic when it’s full. It’s your biggest single hit. Don’t sit on a full bar.
  6. Pop Maxima for a damage window. Drink it right before you unload your spells and Ancient Magic so the boost actually lands.
  7. Heal early. Drink a Wiggenweld at half health, not at one sliver. One extra hit should never end your run.
  8. Repeat. Dodge, punish, reset. No freestyling.

Why This Slaps: his attacks come out fast with little warning, so a dodge first, spells second rhythm beats trying to tank him every time.

The Ending: Kneel and Ride

Once his health is gone, he charges you one last time and a prompt gives you two choices: Kneel or Attack. Relax, both tame him and unlock him as your mount, they just play different cutscenes. We’d still pick Kneel: it’s the respectful option and the nicer scene.

Then ride him back to the Pensieve Chamber, ramming through the barricades poachers have left on the path. At the chamber, stand him on the circular platform until it lights up and reveals the hidden doorway. Watch San Bakar’s memory, take the passage back to the Map Chamber and talk to the Keepers’ portraits to wrap up the trial. (Shortcut: fast travel to the Cragcroft Shore Floo Flame and summon him there instead of riding the whole way.)

Rewards

  • Graphorn mount: a ground mount with a charge attack that wrecks enemies and certain barricades. Watch its stamina meter, since charging drains it.
  • Beast entry: the Graphorn joins your Field Guide.
  • XP: 260 for clearing the quest.
  • Trophies and achievements: “Grappling with a Graphorn” for subduing him, and “The One Who Mastered Memories” for viewing all the Pensieve memories (San Bakar’s is the last one).
  • More Graphorns later: you can return to the den to catch more Graphorns with the Nab-Sack and breed them in your Vivarium.

No cap, the mount alone makes this fight worth it. Use the Hogwarts Legacy interactive map to plan where you’ll take him first.

Lord of the Shore FAQ

What spells work on the Lord of the Shore?

Only Damage spells, like Confringo, Diffindo, Bombarda, Incendio and Expelliarmus, plus Ancient Magic and Basic Cast. Control and Force spells have no effect.

What level do you need for San Bakar’s Trial?

Level 24, and you also need to finish Lodgok’s Loyalty first.

Should I pick Kneel or Attack after the fight?

Either works. Both choices tame the Graphorn and unlock it as your mount, they just play different cutscenes. Kneel is the respectful option.

Can you skip the Lord of the Shore?

No. He’s part of San Bakar’s Trial, a main story quest you need to finish the game.

What does the Graphorn mount do?

It’s a ground mount that can charge through enemies and break certain barricades. Charging drains its stamina.

GG: Damage spells only, dodge first, Ancient Magic on cooldown and Kneel at the end. Do this. Thank me later. Next stop, the endgame, and if you’re already hungry for more, here’s everything we know about Hogwarts Legacy 2.
