Link paragliding high over Hyrule in Tears of the Kingdom

Ever stared at the giant whirlpool in the middle of Lake Hylia and wondered where it goes? It leads straight to a shrine. En-oma Shrine sits in a cave under the lake, and opening it sends you from the water up to a sky island and back down again in one smooth loop.

Here’s how to reach the cave, find the crystal, bring it home and claim your rewards. Good news before we start: once the shrine is open, there is no puzzle inside.

En-oma Shrine quick facts.

You need the paraglider for this one, so make sure you have it before you head out. (Pro tip: unlock the Popla Foothills Skyview Tower first. It does most of the work for you.)

Loading the map…

Step 1: Get Into the Whirlpool Cave

You cannot walk or swim into this cave from the shore. The only way in is to drop straight into the whirlpool.

  • Starting Point: fast travel to the Popla Foothills Skyview Tower and launch yourself into the air.
  • The Glide: open your paraglider and head slightly southwest over Lake Hylia until the whirlpool comes into view.
  • The Drop: glide right over the centre of the whirlpool, close the paraglider and fall in. The current pulls you down into the Lake Hylia Whirlpool Cave.
  • Start the Quest: the shrine’s stone base is right in front of you. Examine it to start the shrine quest The Lake Hylia Crystal.

Hitting the whirlpool from above is far easier than trying to swim into it from the shoreline. Your best bet is always the tower launch.

Step 2: Find the Crystal in the Sky

Once the quest is active, a green beam points up to where the crystal waits. It is on the Faron Sky Archipelago, the sky island chain sitting right above the whirlpool.

  1. Leave the cave and get back to the Popla Foothills Skyview Tower.
  2. Launch again. At the top of the launch, swing the camera toward Lake Hylia and look for the faint green beam.
  3. Glide over to the archipelago. Head for the stone building, since the crystal sits inside it.

Short on stamina? The glide is longer than it looks. Pack a stamina elixir or a meal with stamina recovery (think Stamella Shrooms or Endura Carrots). Our cooking and elixirs guide has the recipes.

The Lake Hylia Crystal waits on the Faron Sky Archipelago, high above the whirlpool.

Step 3: Drop the Crystal Back Down

This is the fun part. The building on the sky island has a hole in the floor, and it lines up with the whirlpool far below.

  • Grab the Crystal: pick it up inside the building.
  • Walk to the Edge: carry it to the very edge of the hole in the floor and drop it in.
  • Follow It: jump down the hole straight after it. Skydive toward Lake Hylia and fall into the whirlpool again.
  • Find It Below: when you land back in the cave, the crystal is sitting on the ground right in front of you.

(Pro tip: careful around that hole before you have the crystal in hand. Fall through empty handed and you have to do the whole sky trip again.)

Step 4: Deliver the Crystal and Open the Shrine

Pick the crystal up and carry it over to the shrine’s base. Set it in place and En-oma Shrine rises out of the ground. Nailed it?

Walk inside. There is no puzzle at all: follow the path, open the chest, then continue to the end to collect your Light of Blessing.

Rewards

  • Light of Blessing: trade four of them at a Goddess Statue for a Heart Container or a Stamina Vessel.
  • Mighty Zonaite Sword: found in the chest inside the shrine. A solid upgrade if you are still early in the game.
  • Fast Travel Point: once activated, you can warp straight back to the cave under the lake any time.

Pro Tips

  • Stamp Both Layers: put a stamp on the whirlpool on the surface map and on the archipelago on the sky map. Flipping between them shows how neatly they line up.
  • Watch the Weather: rain and fog make the beam harder to see. If you cannot spot it, wait or sleep until clear weather.
  • Bring a Weapon Slot: leave a free slot so you can take the Mighty Zonaite Sword without dropping something.
  • Explore the Depths Too: the Amo-ne Lightroot sits under this shrine in the Depths (its name is En-oma spelled backwards), reached through the Lake Hylia Chasm.

Oh, and if you’re hunting every collectible while you are in the area, our Korok Seed locations guide and the TOTK interactive map will keep the rest of your Lake Hylia trip on track.
