Asmongold playing Hood Warfare

Asmongold is the latest big streamer to try Hood Warfare 2, the budget gang shooter blowing up on Steam. As usual with him, the gameplay wasn’t the part people clipped.

The clip passed 300,000 views in a few hours. It shows Asmongold losing a fight on one of the game’s dimly lit night maps. Then he stops and asks his chat how he can explain that he couldn’t see the other player “without being racist.”

He blamed the lighting, saying the other player was hiding in the dark and the map was too dark to see anyone. His awkward pause and the game’s dark street lighting did the rest, and the clip spread fast across X. The same clip also shows him calling in the game’s Snitch killstreak, which pops up as a phone call to an anonymous tip line.

What Is Hood Warfare 2?

Hood Warfare 2 comes from indie studio Trapstar Games. It’s a multiplayer FPS where rival gangs fight over city neighborhoods. The first game launched in Early Access on Steam in January 2023 and was set in Detroit. The sequel, Hood Warfare 2, came out on October 8, 2026, and moved the action to Chicago, with maps like Downtown, The Suburbs, The Trenches and Chicago Mall.

It costs about $6, and the comparisons to Call of Duty write themselves. It has killstreaks, create-a-class loadouts and a HUD that looks a lot like Modern Warfare’s. The mode names are where it goes its own way:

  • Turf War (Domination)
  • GangBang (Team Deathmatch)
  • Chaos (Free-for-all)
  • Hit A Lick (Capture the Flag)
  • Destroy The Block (Search and Destroy)
  • Chain Snatch (Kill Confirmed)

There’s even a “Snitch” killstreak that works like a UAV.

Why Everyone Is Playing It

The sequel took off almost as soon as it launched, and you can track it on our Hood Warfare 2 live player count chart. Clips of drive-by killstreaks and cross-map snipes are all over social media, which is free advertising for a $6 game. It was the perfect setup for someone like Asmongold, whose reaction streams turn whatever’s trending into content.

The game also has critics. The launch came with server problems and technical issues, and a game built entirely around gang culture has drawn complaints that it leans hard on stereotypes. Trapstar Games includes a disclaimer saying the game is fiction and doesn’t condone real-world gang violence.

The Verdict From Chat

Asmongold didn’t seem to plan on playing Hood Warfare 2 for long, but his stream sent a huge wave of new attention to the game. For a $6 indie shooter, that kind of exposure is priceless.

Asmongold wasn’t done with the bit, either. A few hours after the clip spread, he posted his own feature requests for the game on X: “They gotta add the smoke detector chirps when you get close to the apartment buildings. Also the pistol should aim sideways.”

You can catch Asmongold live on Twitch.
