Bloodborne co-op mod BBSC: a hunter walking through the streets of Yharnam

Bloodborne’s co-op has always been a lonely kind of multiplayer. You ring a bell, wait, hope someone answers, and lose them the moment the boss dies or someone falls off a ledge. A new Bloodborne co-op mod called BBSC wants to fix that, and it goes a lot further than Sony ever did.

BBSC stands for Bloodborne Seamless Co-op. Created by CLS_AMG and released as a first public test on GitHub, it keeps your group together through deaths, lamps, area changes, boss fights and trips back to the Hunter’s Dream. And it supports up to five players at once.

What the Bloodborne Co-op Mod Does

If you’ve played Elden Ring’s Seamless Co-op mod, you already know the idea. Instead of temporary summons that vanish after every boss, BBSC runs one persistent session for the whole group.

  • Up to five hunters: a host plus four guests
  • Everyone keeps their own character, levels, Blood Echoes and items
  • The group stays together: guests follow the host between areas and lamps and respawn with the group after a death
  • Shared progress (optional): the host’s boss kills and opened shortcuts are added to each guest’s world
  • Boss rewards and drops for everyone: guests get boss rewards and enemy drops too, and items they already picked up won’t respawn for them
  • Enemy scaling: enemies get tougher as more hunters join

That last point matters. Five fully leveled hunters against vanilla Father Gascoigne would be over in seconds. Scaling keeps the fights feeling like Bloodborne.

A Co-op Kit With No Insight Cost

BBSC replaces the usual multiplayer hassle with a dedicated co-op kit, and none of it costs Insight:

  • Hunt Bell to host a session
  • Kin Bell for guests to join
  • Bloodlust Bell
  • Parting Blank
  • Duel Bell to toggle PvP on and off

The mod also swaps the vanilla “beckoner” and “resonance” messages for co-op messages that make more sense in a persistent session.

How to Play: shadPS4, the PC Port and Split-Screen

BBSC runs in the shadPS4 emulator and in the Windows build of the native Bloodborne PC port, the same community project behind the recent Shadow of the Colossus PC port. Support for the native port is still in testing.

You can connect in a few ways:

  • Public server hosted for the mod
  • Self-hosted server over Radmin VPN, Tailscale, LAN or a VPS
  • Split-screen on one PC, through a separate Nucleus Co-op package

Setup is simple for players: unzip the Play package, run PLAY BBSC.cmd, create an account on the server from the launcher’s settings, then have the host ring the Hunt Bell while everyone else rings the Kin Bell. Your existing shadPS4 settings, patches and saves carry over.

What You Need

  • Your own copy of Bloodborne, specifically CUSA03173 version 01.09. No game files are included.
  • Windows to play (the server can also run on Linux)
  • A save backup, which the developer recommends before you start

BBSC is a fan project with no affiliation with FromSoftware or Sony.

Early Version, Missing Features

This is version 0.0.1, the very first public test, so expect rough edges. Some features aren’t in yet, including Chalice Dungeons. If you run into bugs, the developer asks players to report them on the project’s Discord with their version, whether they were host or guest, what happened and both players’ logs.

Why This Bloodborne Co-op Mod Is a Big Deal

Bloodborne is still stuck on PS4, with no official remaster or PC release in sight. The community has been filling the gap, first with shadPS4 making the game playable on PC, then with a native PC port, and now with a co-op mode that’s arguably better than the original.

Taking down the Cleric Beast with four friends who actually stay in your world from Central Yharnam to the Nightmare Frontier is exactly the kind of thing Bloodborne fans have wanted for years.
