Poppy Sweeting is the Hufflepuff who would rather spend an afternoon with a Hippogriff than with people, and honestly, after a few hours in the Highlands, you get it. She is one of the three companions in Hogwarts Legacy with a full relationship questline, and hers is the one that takes you deepest into the poacher storyline.

So here’s the deal: this guide covers how you meet Poppy, a full walkthrough of Fire and Vice (the main quest that kicks off her story), and the order of all eight of her relationship quests.

Who Is Poppy Sweeting?

The Setup: Poppy is a fifth year Hufflepuff with a gift for magical beasts and a very low tolerance for anyone who hurts them. She is warm, a little shy around people and fearless around creatures, and her bond with the Hippogriff Highwing is the emotional core of her story.

How to Meet Poppy: Beasts Class

You meet Poppy in the main quest Beasts Class, which unlocks after Percival Rackham’s Trial once you hit level 13. Professor Howin teaches the lesson, and Poppy helps you through it.

  1. Brush and feed Gerald the Puffskein using the Beast Petting Brush and Beast Feed.
  2. Brush and feed one of the Kneazles in the pen.
  3. Talk to Professor Howin, who mentions Professor Weasley’s assignments.
  4. Follow Poppy into the forest, where she introduces you to Highwing. Bow to the Hippogriff when prompted.
  5. Brush and feed Highwing. Poppy then tells you about the poachers that are getting bolder in the area.

You walk away with the Beast Petting Brush, Beast Feed and 260 XP, plus a very clear sense that Poppy’s poacher problem is going to become your poacher problem.

Fire and Vice Walkthrough

Fire and Vice unlocks after you finish Charles Rookwood’s Trial and reach level 19. This is where Poppy’s story gets real. Let me paint the picture: a hidden arena where poachers and goblins force captured dragons to fight.

  1. Meet Poppy at the quest marker in the North Ford Bog, just north of the Forbidden Forest.
  2. Follow her through the woods, past a group of centaurs, to an abandoned camp.
  3. Search for signs of poachers. Cast Revelio and inspect the highlighted clues: a cage, a beast pelt, goblin metal and the bonfire.
  4. Talk to Poppy, then follow her downhill to the poacher camp.
  5. Clear the camp. Go in with stealth (Disillusionment plus Petrificus Totalus) or fight openly. Then cast Reparo on the broken bridge to reach the tent.
  6. Investigate Horntail Hall. Take out the poacher standing guard and slip through the opening marked Restricted Area.
  7. Go downstairs. Goblins are talking below; fight them or sneak past with Disillusionment, then climb the ladder at the end.
  8. Reach the captive dragon. After the cutscene, head down the stairs.
  9. Collect the dragon egg by opening its cage with Alohomora.
  10. Defeat the poachers and goblins in the arena.
  11. Free the dragon by casting Accio on the hook that holds it.

The Payoff: 260 XP, the Defender of Dragons achievement or trophy, and three new side quests: Professor Weasley’s Assignment, The Plight of the House Elf and The Tale of Rowland Oakes. It also unlocks Poppy’s first relationship quest.

Stealth or Combat?

Both work, and neither changes the story. I’m not gonna lie, stealth is the more satisfying way to clear the first camp: Petrificus Totalus takes most regular poachers out in one go (tougher ones may survive it) and keeps the fights small. The arena at the end is a forced fight either way, so save your strongest combos for that.

All Poppy Sweeting Relationship Quests

After Fire and Vice, Poppy’s relationship quests unlock one at a time. Each new one usually waits for you to progress the main story or reach a higher level, so if the next one does not show up, keep playing and check back.

Lore Deep Dive: Poppy’s whole arc is about choosing who she wants to be, separate from the family history she is not proud of. The worldbuilding here is next level: every quest pulls one more thread of the poacher network you first stumbled on at Horntail Hall.

Tips for Poppy’s Questline

  • Hit the level gates: Fire and Vice needs level 19, A Dragon Debrief follows right after it, Poached Egg needs level 20, and A Bird in the Hand later needs level 27. If you are short, side quests and Merlin Trials level you up fast.
  • Save before Horntail Hall: a manual save lets you try both the stealth and combat routes through the camp.
  • Bring Alohomora: you need it for the egg cage, so learn it from Gladwin Moon first if you have not.
  • No deadline: her quests stay available after the main story ends, so you can finish them post credits.

Level 19, and you must have completed Charles Rookwood’s Trial first.

Either works. Stealth with Disillusionment and Petrificus Totalus is easier for the camp, but the dragon arena at the end is a fight no matter what.

Here’s Where It Gets Wild: Poppy starts as the quiet beast kid and ends up leading one of the game’s most personal storylines. Plenty of players are still running through the Highlands on PC, as the live Hogwarts Legacy player count shows, and if you are wondering whether a first playthrough is still worth it this year, our Hogwarts Legacy in 2026 verdict has the answer. Anyway, go find Highwing. Poppy will be waiting.
