Talent points are where your Hogwarts Legacy witch or wizard really starts to feel like yours. You cannot unlock all of them on one save, so a little planning goes a long way. No pressure, though: you can reset them later for Gold if a build is not working.
Let’s walk through this together: how the Talent system works, the ten talents that keep earning their spot, and a simple order to grab them in.
How Talents Work in Hogwarts Legacy
If you’re just starting out, here’s the chill version.
- Unlocking the menu: the Talents menu opens after the main quest Jackdaw’s Rest.
- Earning points: you get your first Talent Point at level 5 and one more with every level after that. Points you earned before the menu opened are waiting for you.
- The pool: 48 talents across five categories: Spells, Dark Arts, Core, Stealth and Room of Requirement.
- Level tiers: talents open up at level 5, level 16 and level 22. Some also need you to know the spell, potion or plant they upgrade.
- The cap: the level cap is 40, which gives you 36 points in total for 48 talents. You will have to choose.
- Respec: since the June 2024 update you can refund talents for 200 Gold per point, either one at a time, a whole tree, or everything at once.

Level 5 Picks: Grab These First
1. Spell Knowledge I, II and III
Honestly? This is the most important talent line in the game. Each one adds a new spell set (hold the trigger and tap the D-pad to swap). More sets means more spells ready in a fight, which matters a lot once you have a dozen good ones.
2. Swift
Hold dodge and you vanish, then reappear a short distance away. It is a smoother, safer escape than a normal roll, and it makes crowded fights feel way less chaotic.
3. Confringo Mastery
Confringo is already a great fire spell. With this talent, each impact sends out extra fiery bolts that seek nearby enemies. Okay but, this part is so good: it turns a single target spell into a little crowd clearer.
4. Human Demiguise
Disillusionment normally keeps you at a slow sneak. Human Demiguise lets you sprint while invisible, which makes stealth missions and sneaking up for Petrificus Totalus takedowns so much less tedious.
5. Fertiliser
Every Chinese Chomping Cabbage you throw gets a free twin. Cabbages are already one of the strongest tools in the game, so doubling them is a huge deal. Trust me on this one.

Mid and Late Game Picks
6. Wiggenweld Potency I and II
Your Wiggenweld Potions heal more. Not flashy, but on harder difficulties or against big bosses, extra healing per sip is what keeps you standing.
7. Maxima Potion Potency
Makes your Maxima Potion hit even harder and lets your attacks break enemy shields while it is active, which is perfect for chunking down shielded enemies. Great if you already brew potions in the Room of Requirement.
8. Stupefy Expertise
Stupefy normally just stuns. With Expertise it deals real damage on impact too, and since you cast it constantly off your Protego blocks to stun enemies and set up combos, that damage adds up fast. Some guides list this at a different level, so check your own tree.
9. Transformation Mastery
Enemies you transform with Transformation become explosive objects. Throw them at their friends for a boom. It is one of the most fun talents in the whole game.
10. Curse Sapper
The one healing talent in the Dark Arts tree. Defeating a cursed enemy restores some of your health, so it pairs nicely with the rest of the Dark Arts talents. Honestly? It is the reason a lot of players go Dark Arts.

A Simple Build Order
- Levels 5 to 10: Spell Knowledge I and II, Swift, Confringo Mastery, Fertiliser.
- Levels 10 to 15: Human Demiguise, Wiggenweld Potency I, and whatever spell masteries match your favorite spells.
- Level 16 onward: Spell Knowledge III, Wiggenweld Potency II, Maxima Potion Potency.
- Level 22 onward: Stupefy Expertise, Transformation Mastery, Curse Sapper.
