Standing at the base of a towering rock pillar with a Goron blocking your way? Take a breath. Gorae Torr Shrine looks intimidating, but it’s one of the friendlier challenges in Eldin.

There’s no wrong way to approach this one, and you can always try again. Let’s walk through it together, one platform at a time.

Where to Find Gorae Torr Shrine

Gorae Torr sits at the top of a tall rock pillar in the northeast corner of the Eldin region. You’ll find it just east of Eldin’s Flank, and the spot is called Gut Check Rock. It’s one of the 120 Shrines in the game, so it’s a nice one to tick off your list.

When you first arrive, you can’t simply walk up and activate it. A Goron named Bayge is guarding the entrance, and he’s got a challenge for you.

  • Region: Eldin, in the northeast corner, north of Death Mountain.
  • Landmark: A tall rock pillar just east of Eldin’s Flank.
  • Shrine Quest: The Gut Check Challenge.
  • Gatekeeper: Goron Bayge, standing next to the entrance.
  • Shrine Type: Blessing Shrine, so there’s no puzzle to solve.
  • Cost to Try: 20 Rupees.

(Pro tip: Any attempt to sneak past Bayge gets countered, so save yourself the trouble and talk to him first.)

This isn’t a puzzle shrine. It’s a climbing test against the clock, and you can take your time preparing for it. A little food and a calm head go a long way.

  • Step 1: Prep Your Food. Before you talk to Bayge, cook a few dishes that boost your stamina wheel. Endura Carrots are perfect for this.
  • Step 2: Talk to Bayge. He’ll explain that you need to pass his climbing test. Agree to the challenge and pay the 20 Rupees.
  • Step 3: Start at the Bottom. You’ll be placed at the base of the pillar with a countdown running. Plan for about 2:30 to be safe.
  • Step 4: Follow the Green Rupees. They mark the path up the pillar. The route isn’t difficult, though you’ll need to leap in a few spots.
  • Step 5: Rest on the Platforms. Stop at the platforms along the way to refill your stamina before the next stretch.
  • Step 6: Grab the Red Rupees. Once you’re about halfway up, red rupees start to appear. You need to collect 100 rupees in total, and the red ones make that easy.
  • Step 7: Reach the Top in Time. Get to the summit with your 100 rupees before the timer runs out, and Bayge will let you through.

Take It at Your Own Pace between platforms. The timer is generous enough that a short rest won’t sink you, as long as you keep moving.

Don’t skip this one just because it feels like a mini-game. It’s a small, satisfying test, and a failed run only costs you a few rupees.

Rewards and Benefits

Once you’ve passed the test, walk into the shrine. The Monk greets you by saying you’ve already passed the test, so there’s nothing left to solve. It’s a lovely little moment worth savoring.

  • Checklist: Great Frostblade. Climb the steps and open the chest. Gamer Guides notes it has extra durability, which is a nice bonus.
  • Checklist: Spirit Orb. Speak to the Monk to claim it.
  • Checklist: Shrine Activated. This adds another fast travel point to your map and another Shrine to your count.

One more thing before you move on: Spirit Orbs add up. Collect four and you can trade them at a Goddess Statue for a Heart Container or a stamina boost. That’s worth remembering for the long road ahead.

Pro Tips for the Climb

  • Stamina Food First: Cook a few Endura Carrot dishes before you start. A bigger stamina wheel means fewer stops and a much more relaxed climb.
  • Watch the Clock: Treat the time limit as 2:30. If you’re comfortably ahead, you can afford a breather on a platform.
  • Rest on Platforms: Refill your stamina fully before the next jump rather than scrambling with an empty wheel.
  • Don’t Panic on a Miss: If you fall or run out of time, you can go back to Bayge and try again. Each attempt teaches you the route a little better.
  • Learn the Path: The green rupees show you where to go. On your second run you’ll already know where the jumps are.
  • Bring Spare Rupees: Each try costs 20 Rupees, so it’s worth carrying a little extra in case you need a second go.

(Pro tip: Don’t chase every rupee off the path at the start. Stick to the green trail and let the red ones come to you once you pass the halfway point.)

Why Gorae Torr Shrine Matters

Gorae Torr is a gentle reminder that Breath of the Wild doesn’t always test your combat skills. Sometimes it just asks you to prepare, climb, and enjoy the view.

It’s also a great early win for your completionist journey. You get a Spirit Orb, a durable Great Frostblade, and a bit of confidence for tougher climbs to come. It’s a marathon, not a sprint, and every shrine counts.

So how did your climb go? Did you make it on the first try, or did Bayge send you back down? Share your best time and your favorite stamina food in the comments, and happy exploring.
